How good are the official Clear and Silicone Cover?

I've tried a lot (a lot!!) of cases for my S8 but I didn't like any of them (except one, an Isipio but they made the headphone jack hole too small for 2 of my 3 earphones).

I don't want anything bulky (so no Otter Box). I saw the official Clear and Silicone covers and I'm considering them. I want my phone to be safe if I drop it but I don't want to be able to throw it.

Anyone have one of those cases? Any drops? Did they survive?

I have the official clear case and there isn't another case on the market that feels like there is no case at all on the phone. I've used the Samsung clear case on all 4 of my previous galaxies.
I really don't think it offers much drop protection however. This year's version doesn't have the raised and rounded bumper corners like the previous models...

How about the alcantara cover? I assume it won't offer much more protection compared to the others you mentioned, but for me it feels more grippy so it could minimize the risk of dropping the phone

I've also been buying the official clear case every year since Samsung has been selling it. There is a bit of a “lip” on the front of this year's clear case, even though it doesn't look like it. My S8+ fell out of a pocket and landed face down on concrete. It was an 18"–24" drop. I feared the worst, but there was just enough protection in the clear case to save the day. The “lip” prevented the glass from coming into contact with the concrete.
