How good is the multi-tasking?

(I know I've posted this already) TaskOS is an app that brings up all open applications, and displays that applications icon. It's very similar to card view, with you being able to swipe left to right to view open apps, flick upwards to close the process, and tap the icon to open the app.

I highly recommend this for people who come from a Pre.

Makes me feel more at home :-D

can you post a screen shot? or maybe link me to the dev home page of the app so i can read up on it?

You may want to check out customizing a home screen with your most commonly used tasks, I've setup a couple so I can just bounce back with the home button and then I can get to or back to whatever I want. I use the screen to the left of the main home screen for this so it's, home > swipe > select
Yea, I do that, but it still isn't as smooth as the pre. It really isn't a big deal for me. I navigate pretty quickly with the phone as I have it set up.

thanks guys this is helpful.. i haven't read a post where an ex pre user wasn't happy.. but then again if you were happy with the pre would of ditched it on day 1 of evo? prolly not.
The pre is the best phone I've ever had (before the Evo). I'd say I was pretty satisfied and I'd recommend it to anyone on Sprint not wanting to buy the Evo. I just like to have the latest and greatest. I'll likely get a new phone next year too.

ah man.. this os is not webos.. idk..

Sounds like this phone might not be for you. You'll likely go in and just find things that aren't WebOS and sour your whole experience.

I still say try it for 30 days and make a decision based on your experience. Watching videos or demoing the display unit in the store doesn't let you fully understand the device. You need to be able to install apps that you want and configure the Sense UI to your liking and you'll eventually forget about WebOS when you see how much more capable this phone is.

I don't think anyone here is going to try to hard sell you on the evo. If you love the pre, and you're happy with the total package (hardware and software), then don't upgrade. That said, as a pre owner, I can tell you I am far more productive on the evo than I ever was on the pre. There's no comparison in the number and quality of apps.

One thing I didn't see anybody mention, is if you hold down the menu button, you get your 6 most recent apps, which if you're multitasking means you can jump back and forth between email and nav in two buttons, which is one less movement than on the pre (swipe up/button, swipe left or right, click on app) vs. (hold menu, click on app).

I also hope HP/Palm brings the heat with generation two devices, but for a sprint customer on the premier plan, you're not losing anything by taking a year long vacation to let them get it sorted out.

That is what I am thinking too. We have 30 days to return it. In my opinion, the EVO is looking better for these reason:

Micro SD card slot
More apps
8mp camera

The Mirco SD card slot itself is a biggie for me. I can get rid of ZumoDrive and load all my music onto the card.

One of the biggest disappointments for me with the Pre was the lack of good quality apps. I am willing to pay a premium price for them.

Also, check out subsonic. I installed it on my windows home server (much easier than a Lamp/Ampache server), and now have access to all of my home music on the evo, plus I can download from my server to my sd card for stuff I want to have in the default player. nice app, and free.

I made a short little video showing some real life multi-tasking. It's uploading now and I should have it ready in 15 minutes or so.

Well, I decided to call the second Sprint store in my area to get on their list for an EVO and they said come on down and pick one up now! So, I am home with mynew EVO. Messing around with in now.
