How i learned to flash a ROM

from 2e scroll down to apply sdcard:update.zip select it, and this will bring you into CWM

When I try to select the update zip option depressing the pwr button to initiate option does nothing am I missing something? stuck on 2e not sure what ive done wrong

in 2e recovery use the home button, in clockwork use power button

should have edited that last one, I had a corrupt file flashed through odin for clockwork recovery, thank you DroidXcon for your quick response though. One more question, if I use the Backup option in CWM is that a sufficient safety net to retain stock vzw apps if I needed to recover to stock?

yeah but it will leave you exactly where you are now with text messages and missed calls etc..it takes a like a snap shot of where you are now than you can recover it later, but truely going to back to out of the box stock, you would Odin DI01 package

That makes sense. So if vzw ever released 2.2 then downgrading to DI01 would be the best option for upgrading ota. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me through all this.

thats what i would do. there is a DL09 full package but that was built off a leak. id use DI01 and climb from there

if u flash a rom do u losse everything on the phone because i am sick and tired of having to reinstall everythingn i have to do it like four times since the ota and still keep the haptic feed back because i like that alot

well when you flash a custom rom you will do that method. but i wouldnt bother doing DJ05 since its almost identical to DL09, i would use odin to go to DI01 then OTA to DL09.
but if you were to go the DJ05 route,
There is a ODIN full package for that. so you dont have to go through all the steps...

you still need to flash clockwork via Odin and flash the radio aswell
then download rom manager, flash CWM from rom manager. put the rom and kernel to the root of the SD, then the rest is similar to what the HTC video showed.

ok thanks for your help but i wanted to try the superdark rom would that work on the DL09 or are there better roms for the DL09 than the DJ05

Im using superdark with DL09 radio and kernel with no issues,,DL09 and DJ05 work fine together, if you lose haptic you can try either some of Adrynalyne's kernels or the stupid fast kernels

i saw your post saying to start from DI01 and go up from there to DL09 where can i get the DI01 from and how would i do it...install DI01 and then install DL09?

Can't boot into CWM?

When I get into recovery, I'm getting an error message:

E:failed to verify whole-life signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Did I do something wrong? Is there a workaround that I can use to flash the rom? SO CLOSE - HELP PLEASE!

are you rooted?

did you flash clockworkmod via odin,,,,,and when you downloaded rom manager did you hit the "Flash clockworkmod recovery" button

Rooted, yes - via FascinateRoot_v02. Flash CWM via Odin, no. Downloaded Rom Manager & flashed via the app. Did I miss a step there?

Edit: aaaand now when I rebooted out of recovery, it's riddled with force closes. Dammit.

you need to flash a new kernel, try one of adrynalynes kernels...put it to the root of your SD card and flash the kernel via clockwork
