How important is a removable battery?

I'm a heavy phone user (work email, texting, social networking, streaming audio, no gaming no streaming video) but I've never bought a high spec phone before and I'm due for an upgrade. In the past i've been a blackberry user and I'm currently using an 800 mhz 480x800 motorola device on gingerbread so upgrading to a GS4 or Optimus G or HTC One will be a huge difference for me and I will likely keep this phone for at least 2 years. How important is it to have a removable battery? I've never had a phone without a removable battery and knowing that i'm a heavy user and plan on keeping this phone for a long time makes me feel intimidated about getting a phone with an internal battery. My hope would be to get the GS4 and then replace the battery after a couple of years with a higher capacity one. Do batteries wear down a lot after 2 years of use? Do they make aftermarket higher capacity batteries? Or should I not worry about a battery being non-replaceable? Another consideration is that I'm in a super cold city where it gets down to 5-10 degrees and I'll be outside texting or walking to work, does this extreme cold drain battery life extra?

IMO. A removable battery is a must unless you can do without one. I really can't tell you how your battery will fair without seeing actual usage. My stock battery for my s3 last approximately a day with minor usage and it dies so quick if i stream anything. I don't have that issue with my hyperion extended battery though. So yeah i consider it a must.

I like to carry a spare battery with me just in case I run out of juice. Sometimes I am a mild user but mostly, I am a heavy user. For me, a removable battery is best, as I can't always find a wall charger nor do I like being tethered to a cable.

I never ever considered it an option, too difficult. I have a battery pack charger.

My phone is a phone, a texting device, a few newspapers, several magazines and forums, my bookshelf, my Chinese dictionary and flash cards, my games, my photo album and music player, my universal map and navigation system, my flashlight, my...

I use it all day and evening and have chargers and cables in my office and house. But when I'm on the road, especially on a plane, I always carry a few fully charged spare batteries.

I wouldn't buy a smartphone without a back door.

I prefer removable batteries too, if for no other reason than to have options. I can swap batteries whenever and for whatever reason I want/need without worrying about breaking into the phone or trusting someone else to do it without breaking it. The option of going to a larger capacity battery is great, but this feature is even more important for anyone planning to keep a phone long past the usual contract length. Eventually all batteries loose charge capacity, and I'm not sure I'd trust the original battery much past a two year contract before wearing out.

So I'm assuming you guys are all on GS3 then? Looks like the next generation of phones will only have one with a removable battery - GS4. HTC One, Iphone, and Optimus G don't have removable batteries. Blackberry Curve might but I'm looking to get an Android.

Nope, I'm on Verizon's red headed step child, the Bionic. Actually a solid phone even with its age.

Honestly it's not that important it was hard for me but battery life on these new phones are legit! Lol HTC One should be set!
