How is battery life on Froyo EC05 so far? *poll added*

Are you having bad battery life with EC05 stock? What ROM did you come from?

@ all,

This would require rooting and running custom ROMs but in the last week the devs have come up with a patch for the TWS bug. I'm running Syndicate v1.1.0 and it has the TWS patch and my time without signal is now dow to literally 2 or 3 % after 8 plus hrs off the charger. It has resolved the issue. We have also been pulling down battery life times as much as 30 plus hrs on a single charge with the right custom kernels.

Its a shame Sprint/Sammy will never address these problems in the stock os.

First full day with EC05 - using a combo of *#INFO*1111# code and the System info:

15 hrs 45 mins - 16% battery level
Display 77% (1 hr 10mins)
Cell Stby 14% (15 hrs 44 mins) (TWS 2%)
Phone Idle 7% (14 hrs 39 mins)
Voice 3% (4 mins)
Wifi 2% (43 mins)

This was a little lighter use than normal, but the battery was lower than normal.

With a little adjusting you could probably reduce the screen's battery use. For me, I'm estimating based on current info on mine, that amount of screen on time would only be about 35%.

I have never gotten more then 4 hours screen on time with any update or any custom rom. That is what I would consider heavy use. ;-)

Then again I went on a carribean cruise for a week running bonsai 3.0. I put the phone in airplane mode and kept it inside our cabin and got 6 days. Yes DAYS on one charge.

So in my opinion battery life is directly related to screen on time and signal strength.

4 hours of screen on in a 24 hour period I would consider heavy use as well. If you weren't in airplane mode I imagine 4 hours of screen on would have used up the battery along with whatever stuff was being done (data use etc). The screen, CPU activity, and carrier radios are the most power consuming parts of a device. The more they are used the faster the battery is used up. On webOS I did detailed testing on a number of common usages to see just how much those things consumed. It would be easy to test those things on android as well since the battery use feature provides the level of detail needed to run the numbers.

So just curious... with Froyo, are applications such as Juice Defender useful - or does it just fight against the OS? I've read that EC05 is much more active about controlling background services/data... The last thing I want is to spend all my battery turning on services 200 times because I've got an app turning them off all the time...

I wouldn't think it fights against the OS but I haven't run long enough on 2.2 using it to know if there is any benefit gained like there was on 2.1update1. What's bothering me right now is something is force reloading all of those widgets I was killing before updating to 2.2. Which is likely impacting battery life. I won't know for sure until I can get at least 2 weeks of charge cycles.

I want to run a custom ROM on mine. I don't know enough about the different ones I have as options. Only one I know anything about is CM7 and it isn't ready yet. I have been suspecting the time without signal info to be buggy since the number is all over the place and my time between charges is relatively constant.

Just putting in my 2 cents. Been running for a day n a half with 41% battery left. I've never been able to reach a full day. Loving ec05 :)

No it's software. If it was hardware, there wouldn't be a patch and it'd be a problem 100% of the time.

you must absolutely never use your phone and have no apps installed...

7 hRS 21m and I'm at 27% with only 1%TWS. I even turned wi-fi and gps off today. I have been at work, which is in a good cell area, and it is still going down faster than I like. Any tips besides rooting, which I can't seem to grasp :)

My battery life has significantly decreased after the EC05 update. When I unplug the phone after it's fully charged it drops to 95% before I unlock it! And continues to drain very rapidly over the next 12 hours. The battery usage shows the screen brightness is the only thing draining the battery which was also the case before the update when the battery lasted so much longer.
Any fixes? Thanks.

I know when I want to advise on ways to improve battery life when common methods of reducing battery consumption have been performed; is to look at an individuals usage and look for things that can be adjusted within that to help reduce consumption more. I'm sure if you provide more details about what things you do and how time is spent etc. The battery use info in settings and also in the android assistant app is a good first step since they do a decent job of tracking battery use. Anything that has 10 or 20% or higher is stuff we probably would want to see if we can adjust anything related to. Also any background running things that say use 5 or 10% especially if more than 1 or 2 are things we would want to consider as ways of reducing consumption.

I'm running the syndicate frozen ROM based on EC05 and I'm currently at about 44 hours since last charge with 19% battery left.

I cannot confirm that the TWS bug is fixed running syndicate. When I first flashed the ROM I noticed my TWS the next morning was @ 53%. I did the airplane toggle and it completely has gone away since. However my battery life is truly amazing since I toggled airplane mode.

Is there something else you have to flash besides the ROM itself to get the TWS bug fixed?

My experience is that when it's idle it uses almost no battery at all...less than ever.

When I use it though, it goes down faster than ever. Same usage patterns.

Here is a screenshot of my battery use:

Edit:

Just brok 48 hours on a single charge.

That's been my experience too. For me EB13 update.zip from Samsungs website before it was pulled was maybe a tad better than stock on phone DI18, but then like you said; when EC05 update with no data loss from here on AC is at idle standby it uses almost no battery at all, but when in use, it goes down slightly faster than previous.

What I have found is that that when I upgraded to EC05 from EB13, it didn't keep my previous display settings - after resetting my display settings everything seemed to return to normal as far as usage time and I still get a slightly longer idle standby time.

I attribute the extra battery use to a slightly snappier performance. Speed requires power. Nobody has found a way around that yet.

And what was the Display usage time?

It was at right about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

I finally started charging my phone again. It is good to know that I can get about 2 days on a single charge with light to moderate use.

That sounds about in line with how much my screen consumes though I think you may be getting a little more screen on time for the amount consumed than I do. I'm curious where our usage and/or settings differ. Because perhaps I can do more to squeeze more out of mine. So far I have had 3 full charge cycles since updating and it appears to match the full charge duration from the weeks from before the update. This is the tail end of the 6th week I've had mine. The first two weeks it was roughly 24 hours between charges with little to no use. Adding juicedefender this went up to roughly 36 hours between charges with little to no use. It is possible that I'm getting even more time between charges on EC05 but I can't say that for sure until I have more full charge cycles to make a determination. I think about 7 more should give me a good baseline to see if the total time between charges is more than it was before the update.

I am at 35% right now.

Time on 8h 6m 50s
Display 77% with time on 26m 28s
Cell Standby 11%
Voice Calls 8%
Wi-Fi 2%
Phone Idle 2%
