How is it that nobody is complaining about intrusive notifications?

Hey EINSTEIN'S? The panel supplements the notifications at the top of the phone. The purpose of the Edge screen is to put all your apps vertically on a panel to access without having your home screen cluttered. I personally dont have that problem because my panel is simply used to access my apps. No games. If it's a problem, simply trade it in for a NOTE 4 problem solved.

That's well and good that for the way you use the edge panel, it doesn't bother you. But the purpose of the edge screen is not to put all your apps vertically to access without having your home screen...

The purpose of the edge screen is much more than that. Samsung has notifications come on the edge panel to show it off, but in actuality it doesn't make sense because you have to turn your head sideways to read them and they get in the way when you are trying to use the edge panel.

If you ask me, Samsung could have differentiated the edge from the note 4 by not having a top bar at all. Everything on the top should be on the side, like the time and wireless signal and all the other ongoing icons at the top of the screen. And then everything else could be full screen. And yes, I still think notifications are still best to come in at the top of the screen. I'm that's much better use than a personal message.

Based on the video you posted I can see how you'd make a mistake selecting an app when a notification comes in.

In my case I don't ever recall this issue occuring. However, I can understand how having the option to have notifications display on the side panel or at the top would be a nice feature, but being as one of the main points of the Edge panel is to display notifications I don't see it as a priority for Samsung.

It doesn't appear, based on the feedback so far, that this is that big of an issue for most users either.

Excuse the amateur photo editing, but I think it would be nice if the icons stacked on the side instead.

I hope Samsung never does anything like that because that looks terrible. I think the Note 4 would be better phone for you, or you could head over to the XDA Edge forums and see if someone can cook up a Frankenstein rom for you.

I believe people understand what you're saying, but I don't believe it's as big an issue for many owners of the Edge.

Sort of like a "nice to have" but not that big of a deal. For you it seems to be very important. I would say keep bringing it up and maybe the folks at Samsung will agree.
As an owner myself I could take or leave it.

I don't see why it can't be stopped. I take screen shots a lot in one game, and want to load it in another, but I get delayed because the notification appears in the edge screen. Like has been mentioned, I paid $1000 for a phone, I expect to have a easy time playing games, doing spreadsheets, searching the internet and 100's of other things. Plus maybe make a phone call every once in a while. LoL I just wish there was a way to stop it. Across the top is fine.

I have not used the camera much. Do notifications popup and block the camera controls. That would be a pain.

Most of these tweaks will be addressed if the phone ever gets an active developer community. (and Verizon and ATT root access). I am hoping when Verizon releases, that will happen.

Actually no. Notifications do not come in while using the camera. And I noticed the other day when I was recording video that the edge screen allowed me to reject a phone call without stopping the video I was recording. Very nice!

Notifications will come in during video playback though.

But you are ranting.

Yeah, I'm sure Samsung execs hang out here waiting for feedback from people like you. If you honestly think your post is going to make a difference, I have news for you.
Thank you for your reply. I will be sure to forward your message on to someone who goes through life staying silent and just accepts things the way they are because that is how they are supposed to be and that there must be something wrong with them for thinking otherwise.

The rest of the "people like me" will continue taking an honest look at our devices and giving feedback, negative or positive, in the hopes of improving our technology for everyone.

"People like me" stay with something and see it through just like we did with WebOS, constantly giving feedback for improvements until our devices reached their full potential.

The edge screen is a great idea. Now it's time to put it through some real world use and see how it can be improved.

Good luck with your "feedback". I'm sure Samsung will get right on it, since they are monitoring this thread very closely.

Smart companies do monitor forums, twitter, youtube comments etc for real customer feedback. This is one of the few places where people are discussing this phone so I would no be surprised if they do not look in once in a while.

My company has alerts set up so we get a stream of all comments across the web of daily mentions of our products. Very helpful.

Why even participate here if you only want to hear good things about the Edge? If you want that maybe this forum is not for you.

The issue the OP is complaining about is not an issue for everyone, and only a few. You guys want to disable one of the main features of the phone. Samsung is not going to disable that feature, and you should get use to it or move on.

Multi Window and Smart Stay are also features of the phone. You can disable those. Because they are not for everyone.

Notifications coming in on the edge screen may not be an issue for everyone, but they do affect everyone using the phone. We should be able to disable where it launches an app if you tap on the notification.

Multi-window and smart stay is not same as the edge panel getting notifications. Samsung built the edge panel for the purpose of receiving notifications. If they though it would have been an issue then they would have the option to turn it off, but that would then defeat the purpose of the edge panel.

What else were you doing on the edge panel that a notification came in, and it launch an app besides the game where you purposely launched the app? Please post a video.

I personally like the notifications on the panel.

I tried to switch up and use my Note 4 this weekend, just to have a different experience, and it was not good. I have gotten so used to having my notifications on the panel, and the ease of accessing apps with the swip of my thumb along the panel was sorely missing.

When I purchased both devices I originally thought I would enjoy switching back and forth, but with the value the panel adds to the smartphone experience I may just go ahead and sell the Note 4.

If I may make a suggestion? Get a NOTE 4. You won't have to worry about the panel at all and all your notifications will be up top.

Not being mean or anything but I agree that this is a good suggestion.

The OP seems to be very concerned about this one issue so much that he created two different threads around the same topic.

Even the title of this thread would suggest that he is surprised that not many other users are as concerned about this issue as well.

It just seems to be such a major concern that it might distract from the other positive experience of the Edge, and thus another phone might be better suited?

However, and that being said, I don't see any harm in Samsung making what he's suggesting an option, but in no way is this the hill I'd be willing to die on.

I think its a bit odd to buy a first generation new technology and expect it to work perfectly as one that has been out for years.

Suggestions are good but being so new nobody really knows what hooks are available to developers.

As for the OPs complaints; I can understand them and would hope Samsung might address maybe more flexible use (as togglable; not fixed) but I am certainly puzzled as to.a.screen that really is advertised as a notification screen why the OP would expect flexibility? I would agree with others that have stated you might not have the right equipment for the way you use a phone regardless of price.

What I don't understand is what exactly is the OP doing that has him interacting with the Edge Screen so often that he is inadvertently clicking on notifications? I have had this phone since day one and have never had the panel interfere or accidentally opened a new notification.
