How is it that nobody is complaining about intrusive notifications?

What I don't understand is what exactly is the OP doing that has him interacting with the Edge Screen so often that he is inadvertently clicking on notifications? I have had this phone since day one and have never had the panel interfere or accidentally opened a new notification.

He is playing games on it.

Am I the only one who is bothered by the notifications on the edge screen coming in while you are using the edge screen for something else and then launching that app? So annoying!

No I am not returning my phone and getting something else. I just want to be able to do what I was doing without accidentally ending up launching an app.

This can easily be fixed. I hope that perhaps we can eventually choose notifications to come back in at the top or at least disable the launching of an app when you tap on a notification that comes in on the edge screen.

Multi Window and Smart Stay are also features of the phone. You can disable those. Because they are not for everyone.

Notifications coming in on the edge screen may not be an issue for everyone, but they do affect everyone using the phone. We should be able to disable where it launches an app if you tap on the notification.

I get where he is coming from, I play a game that requires me to take a screenshot, and then switch to another app to get help. The key is, if I haven't loaded the second game prior to needing it, I have to wait till the notification on the screenshot is over before starting second app. A little of a pain, but wouldn't give up my Edge for something like that. Now if I could shut off the notifications, that would be great too. Since I really don't use the edge screen to read notifications

Multi-window and smart stay is not same as the edge panel getting notifications. Samsung built the edge panel for the purpose of receiving notifications. If they though it would have been an issue then they would have the option to turn it off, but that would then defeat the purpose of the edge panel.

What else were you doing on the edge panel that a notification came in, and it launch an app besides the game where you purposely launched the app? Please post a video.

Samsung built the edge panel for much more than just notifications. It's main purpose is to allow you to use it independently of the main screen. I do have a video showing where on other Galaxy devices notifications do not launch an app when tapped on. I think that this would be sufficient enough to allow users to use the phone without interruption.

Galaxy S4 Notifications do not launch an app: http://youtu.be/xt0uvmu6S9g
If I may make a suggestion? Get a NOTE 4. You won't have to worry about the panel at all and all your notifications will be up top.

Thank you for your suggestion. The benefits of the edge screen far outweigh the drawbacks of accidentally launched apps from an incoming notification.

I think its a bit odd to buy a first generation new technology and expect it to work perfectly as one that has been out for years.

Suggestions are good but being so new nobody really knows what hooks are available to developers.

As for the OPs complaints; I can understand them and would hope Samsung might address maybe more flexible use (as togglable; not fixed) but I am certainly puzzled as to.a.screen that really is advertised as a notification screen why the OP would expect flexibility? I would agree with others that have stated you might not have the right equipment for the way you use a phone regardless of price.

I'm not expecting it to work perfectly. I know what it's like to have a device that needs improvement. I am giving feedback.

I hope you know that the edge screen does more than just show notifications.

I would be ok with notifications not coming in but I would at least want to the top bar showing me when I did miss a notification with a little icon. You can play with a phone at a carrier store all you want, but you wouldn't get notifications to come in until your phone is signed in to your accounts. So thank you for your reply but it does not help at all.

I used the game as a demonstration only. A game that the phone comes preloaded with.

I agree I wouldn't mind turning notifications off as long as I can get the icon at the top showing that I missed something.

I suppose the way I use my device exaggerates the issue with notifications coming in and the user accidently tapping on it. I get notifications all the time. Between Facebook / Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Hangouts, WhatsApp, Skype, SMS, Emails, Life360 and so forth it seems like a notification is coming in every few minutes. Especially when a group chat really gets going it's pretty ridiculous. I often mute conversations for a few hours if necessary.

I guess also those who don't have an issue with notifications also are able to make their phone last all day on a battery. That could never happen with me. I'm on my phone all the time. I've disabled unnecessary bloatware and I let my screen auto dim, as well as turning off NFC, Bluetooth, and WiFi when not in use. Spare battery charging kit is on its way!

In my car every time I drive I have Waze Navigation running along with Dailyroads Voyager Dash Cam app running in the background recording video whole I drive. Even with a 2amp charger my phone still has battery drain.

So I'm getting the most out of my phone. No phone is perfect of course and the Edge certainly gets as close to perfect as any phone ever has for me. Thank you everyone for your feedback. I can't wait to see how the software evolves and what Samsung will do in the future using Edge displays.
