How is Sprint?

Well the best way to find out what kind of reception you get in your area is to actually go to Cell Phones, Mobile Phones & Wireless Calling Plans from Sprint and click on the link for coverage maps which is located under the shop tab on the top of the main screen. From there plug in your location and you can zoom into your hearts content to see what kind of coverage you have. Good luck to ya.

I did this, however even though it shows "Best" coverage in my area, however ATT shows me in teh BEST - GOOD coverage area and we can not even make calls from our house.

Is there a website that shows the location of each carriers towers in relation to a zip code? Something that is up to date?

You can google cell towers in your area. A lot of times, there are websties set up that show the location of the different towers. You will see a lot of towers, but it doesn't always tell you who has hardware on that tower, and/or who is leasing usage of said tower.

I did it in my area, when I was having an issue with Sprint, just to do a little homework for myself.

As far as I know, there is no master site for cell tower locations.

I have had Sprint for years.
Left them over a replacement issue to move to Nextel, then Sprint bought Nextel.
Customer service declined with the purchase, but I'm finding that it is hit-or-miss.
I could barely understand one CSR today, and hung up. The next one (Stephanie) was awesome!
She explained the contracts to me, and ended up increasing minutes by 50% and decreasing cost by $50. Occasionally have coverage issues, but I have the same problem with other providers. I would definitely recommend to others.
For those of you that want to break your contract, without an ETF, check out the following thread: forums.androidcentral.com/sprint/112153-cancel-your-sprint-contract-no-etf.html.

Jst joined the forum b/c bought wife an Android, I've been on PreCentral for a couple of years. First post, so can't post links.

Went into the Sprint Corporate store today. Was interesting experience. The sales person there said they have wimax in the area where the store was so I went over to test out a couple of their 4g phones. All of them had between 2 and 3 bars of 3g service. I did a speedtest and got an average of 2mb d/load and 500kb upload. If that is their 4g, they can keep it!

I then drove 1/4 mile down the street to the Verizon store. No 4g LTE yet, but the 3g signal was 4 - 5 bars and d/load speed was a solid 3mb down.

Verizon clearly has great service in my area, however they are the most expensive of the 3. The biggest issue for me with Verizon is that they have no unlimited mobile to mobile like ATT and Sprint.

I'm STILL deciding on what to do. 2 year ends 9/22/11 and I'm so nervous jumping to some where else because of the awesome Service I have gotten. But Sprint is so much cheaper and has unlimited calling to any mobile number. My bill for Verizon is $91 and my bill for Sprint will be $64...

I've been with Sprint for a few months and its special program gave me discount for Everything UNLIMITED Plan for only $40 a month. I'm using Epic. The reason why Sprint special program gave me is because I am Deaf.

I am glad I only get cheapest plan. :D

I'm easily in the top 5% for data use on my phone and I've never been throttled or charged extra for heavy data use. That wouldn't happen elsewhere.

You can get charged for actually USING unlmtd data? Wtf? I might be in trouble this month..8GB and about another week on this bill cycle

Coverage varies a lot by region. Do you have a friend with Sprint in your area? That's what you need, not some random people on the internet who live in other places.

I'm okay with Sprint, not thrilled, but not interested in paying more to someone else. I'd go prepaid but they have too many gotchas and T-mobile throttles after a low data limit.

With Verizon, and AT&T, yes. Going off your X2, I'm gonna say be careful with your "unlimited" data

Been with sprint 2 years and while i think they give you the most for your money you need to check the area you will be using the phone most in to make sure you can take advantage of this. A great price is worth nothing if you can't get a good signal. I get an ok voice signal in my area but my data speeds are terrible and i get no 4g service at all. The data is really a deal breaker for me. What use is unlimited data if it's so painfully slow to use that i don't use it.
I have been hoping they would expand the 4g coverage to my area but over the last year i have spoken to numerous sprint reps and read every news and speculation on the internet and as far as i can tell they have no real plans to expand 4g to my area.
So i am going to switch to Verizon. It will cost me a little more each month but it will be worth it to actually get use out of the data plan on my phone.

It's kind of a catch-22. Verizon is definitely faster, even on 3G, but that just means you'll hit your data cap faster. 4G will burn through your allowance extremely fast.

It's possible but I highly doubt i'll go over my allowance. I'm not a huge data user. I don't really see myself streaming much music or videos. I mostly use the web browser and email and a few apps that access the internet but they don't use much data at all. It's probably just the area i am in has bad coverage with sprint but when i want to look up something on the web i just find the speed so slow that sometimes i just give up. When I do travel on vacation it is somewhat better but i have never been really impressed with the data speed on sprint.
If by some chance i do go over on my data allowance when i switch to Verizon I would rather pay any over charges for something that i use and enjoy then pay less for an unlimited plan that for me has been more annoying then useful.

Ah see I'm slower than Verizon here but it's not of the painful variety. At my father's house it's a lost cause though. He lives at the foot of a mountain.

I use the heck out of mine. I'd be financially murdered on Verizon.

When the carriers say coverage varies they mean it. The maps from the web site is good but that only shows what kind of signals the trying to cover in that area. They never take in to account things like RF and Wifi interference. Even over head power line and the wiring in your house has its effects. This wouldn't change the signal but can effect the how well you can receive your signals. This holds true for any carrier.

Better to ask a friend that has Sprint in your area to run tests for you.

In my area I have had better and worst service the all the other carriers. It all depends.

As for cost I have 4 phones (2 smart phones 2 basic phones) on the family plan and up to this point no carrier can beat my plan to cost. All the phone have unlimited everything including data. Unlimited cell to cell calling (any carrier cell), more land line minuets then we all can use, plus all calls from 7pm to 6am are free.

Do your homework on the phones. Find the one you like. Then use the free trial time to test all the areas you go to on a daily basis. Home, work, and leisure time place to see if the services fits you need.

That is very true. I have been with Sprint for about 11 years. Never had any major issues, until the last 6 months. There are capacity problems in my area near my home, but not in other areas around where I live. Sprint is working on it. I have called several times, and they have always been very accommodating. They are sending an repeater at no charge, and have credited my bill several times since I have not been receiving the service for which I am paying.

Everyone's experience is different, but the only way to know about service is to find people in your area that use it. Up until 6 months ago, I would have said Sprint's service has been great. Now it is spotty, but I feel comfortable saying they are doing what they can to make it right by me.

Their plan seems to be cheaper than what I'm getting on Verizon and I ACTUALLY get unlimited EVERYTHING unlike Verizon. Can anyone give me honest (no bashing) opinions?

Thanks,
- Allen

Easiest way to put it, They have the best value in wireless.

If the signal works, where you want it to work, they are the answer.

There customer service sucks, just pray your phone doesn't mess up in any way. They think a factory reset fixes everything and if it doesn't then, oh well they will try to find some way out of fixing it if they can.

my mind ain't right

Their customer service has been ranked at the top of the industry lately. I have never had a problem with them replacing phones either. I went through 4 Pre's and 3 EVO's from multiple stores. Maybe you just haven't handled your issues well?
