How is the One M9 treating you?

What kind of battery life are you all getting? Like screen on time. I'm considering an m9 and that's really important to me.
At work, where I get a poor signal, I average 4 hours of SOT. At home, where I'm on wifi and my microcell, I average 6 hours of SOT. So overall, I typically average 5 hours of SOT.

The M9 itself isn't a bad phone at all. It's just that when you compare it with the M8 there's not much improvement over it.

I wanted to see a better camera, reduced bezels and a thinner design.

HTC did really well last year. But to stay at the top you need to keep pushing the limits. And HTC sadly didn't push anything this year. They played it safe. And this is what happens to companies who play it safe.

I've been an M8 owner. And that has been my favourite phone ever. Coming from the iPhone I found everything the iPhone had plus more.

Honestly, I still consider the M8 to be the best android phone. Considering how little it costs now.

The M10 must reduce those huge bezels from the sides and the bottom. Must make the design a bit a thinner. Spec out the thing like a beast. And last but not the least, they must not release M10 and then an M10 plus with better hardware after a week. This just confuses the potential buyer.

HTC should've seen this coming.

I did the same thing...returned my Galaxy S6 Edge and instead got an HTC One M9. I really love the M9.
In a nutshell, the camera on the Edge almost blew the camera on the M9 away. And the actual curved edge of the Edge was nice looking and gave an aesthetic value. But other than that, I LOVE the reliability and quality I've experienced with the M9. Other than the camera, all else is great. The sound system is unparalleled. Can't stress the sound quality of the M9 enough. And no haven't noticed any heat issues. The battery could last longer, but at least overnight it consumes very little...just several percent. Whereas the Edge would get stuck at 100% on the CPU overnight somehow, even after factor reset, and eat up the batter REALLY fast.

@Lecrae116 it depends on what I'm doing, but I usually just press the home button. If I share a page, for example, I'll push the back button to go back to where I was, but I usually go back to the home screen when I'm done with an app

After 5.1.1, did you feel that battery life got better?

Im planning to buy a M9. My lost M8 was perfect. But I was worried about M9 battery life.

I got mine when HTC had the one day 25% sale. As soon as i got it, i updated to 5.1, hard reset and set it up from scratch. Been a great phone.
Upgraded from M8 with brief Note 3 and Nexus 6 use in between.
I have yet to notice any sever over heating.
I took these pics this morning of an Armadillo at my office. TO me they look good and its stock settings on the camera. (yes im in Texas.)View attachment 190309View attachment 190310View attachment 190311

We have armadillos all around my neighborhood, and they're definitely not bothered by humans.

I'd kinda have to disagree. I had the M8 and returned it. In fact the M9 is the only Android phone I haven't returned. The camera could definitely be better when it comes to lowlight shots, but otherwise I'm happy with it.

Most of the negative issues still remain for me after Android 5.1 update. Nighttime pictures are still lousy. Overheating for my HTC remains an issue since it died 3 times since 5.1 update. Still have issues with calls dropping, which may be a T-Mobile issue ... I don't know how to troubleshoot ... T-Mobile is a major disappointment for me. My HTC + 64 Gb SD card is used more as a "mobile laptop" than for talk + text. I really enjoy HTC Connect for wireless projection of my HTC screen to a Samsung TV screen at church ... to show videos, pictures and other content.

Probably will never purchase another HTC product (or T-Mobile) as tech support is lousy + no 3rd party products in retail stores for HTC like there are for Apple + Samsung phones.

!!! Android Central + all of you get 5 stars though for tech support !!!

Now that you mention it i was on a call last week to one of my parts suppliers and while i was talking my phone rang.
The odd thing is, it still showed me connected to him, but he called me back saying the call dropped.
BUT since i was still connected to him and he called me back i assumed it was some weird glitch and not an actual dropped call. The only problem with this is that i usually dont talk much on the phone. So its hard for me to say if its an HTC, TMO, or any other issue. But its the first time this has happened to me in the 2+ years i have been with T-Mobile.

Do you have wifi calling on? Does the overheating always happen or just on cellular data? It sounds a bit like you're in a poor signal area. That could explain both the dropped calls and overheating. If you have wifi calling on that could also explain some overheating. At least according to some S6 users that I've seen from the forums.

Nice phone, speakers are not as loud as I would like but they sound great. It seems to be slowing down at times.

Overheating is most noticeable when playing a lot of music videos or on an hour-long conference call. This is when I handle the handset most often. Sometimes with wi-fi on ... sometimes with 4G on.

As far as the TMO signal, there is supposed to be a cell phone tower less than 1000 feet away ... basically a straight shot through my open window ... according to the OpenSignal app. The signal fades in-and-out between 2G, 3G, 3G HSPA+ and 4G even when my HTC is completely still.

You definitely have a degraded signal. Why do you say "there is supposed to be a cell phone tower less than 1000 feet away"? If there is one that close, you should be able to easily see the tower. Do you see it or not? Have you always had a bad signal in that area? Sometimes when they are doing upgrades to towers the signal gets degraded, and that can last up to several weeks. Have you tried checking with T-Mobile to see if that is the case?

I live across from Stanford University and the TMO tower is between my apartment window and the football stadium. Maybe the signal is pointed more toward the Stanford campus and not toward Palo Alto. Not knowing anything about cell tower signals ... and the tower only 5 minutes away ... maybe I'll go for a walk and stand right under it.

Haha, maybe if I stand next to the tower and twirl around like the rotating device on the roof of a Google self-driving car, the signal will be stronger. (silly moment)

If theres a stadium between you and the tower its possible ( at times but not all the time) the tower is at capacity and your trying to connect to a tower farther away that has capacity available. OR they have the power turned down so its meant for the stadium, but thats not likely.
Also just because a tower is down the street doesnt mean its a TMO tower. Id try to do more work to identify that tower and confirm its a TMO or other tower.

I went for my 5-minute walk in search of my cell tower and ended up walking 2 miles through Stanford campus. Never did find it. The OpenSignal directional arrow just kept going forward ... sometimes slightly left or right. Once I crossed the street to the edge of campus and away from some eucalyptus trees, OpenSignal indicated a strong 4G / 5-bars signal all around the campus. So, the cell tower wherever it is, supports the Stanford campus and not Palo Alto neighborhoods. It doesn't help my situation any, but at least I now know that I will never have a good 4G signal at home ... unless I move. Speed tests below are home -vs- Stanford 2-miles into the campus.
