How is the video recording on the 6P without OIS?

It has digital image stabilization, which is technically better than OIS for video, all other things considered.

Mine shakes rather bad. But than again my camera also isn't as good as most people's

4K video isn't good at all because the digital image stabilization doesn't kick in in that setting. It does for 1080p but it has been hit and miss for me. Overall, in 1080p video has been good.

One's great quality will always be someone else's worse quality..its purely subjective. Better look at sample YouTube videos and decide yourself. For comparison sake, my my Lumia 1520 and 950XL used to take better 1080p video quality. Both had OIS so better stabilization.

Compared to my S7 Edge, video is extremely shaky on the Nexus 6P. It also doesn't do a good job of maintaining focus on the subject you're filming (eg. Your child in a sport).

It's camera though, particularly with Nougat, is now excellent, and with Nougat, based on my testing, it's the quickest Android on the market, even today. So damn smooth.

Surprisingly awesome, comes from S6 and G4 I was very concerned but it's actually great

It's shaky. If you're making more serious videos use a tripod or get something like a gimbal if you need to move.

I dunno, why are you making serious videos with a phone?

I've made plenty if videos with this and the lack of OIS, while noticeable in the final product, really doesn't matter all that much, especially if you have even a halfway steady hand.

As for 4K... I don't take any... Don't see the point yet.

On 1080p video, the 6P actually films a larger area than what is in the viewfinder, then uses software to detect movement and adjusts accordingly for what is saved. On 2860p it doesn't use that functionality.

I take videos of my daughter figure skating. I don't have a professional video camera, nor do I want to invest in one. The 6P is terrible for that. It constantly loses focus on her, and is very shaky even if I'm sitting down. The Samsung and other phones with OIS and quick focus are excellent. I don't know that I'd buy a full time video camera at all unless I needed more zoom when using a recent phone with OIS.

I've had focus issues with still images, as well as video. Other than that, it's pretty good.

I've had focus issues as well but it seems to have improved dramatically since the last few updates to Google Camera. The app is still horrendously lacklustre, though.

I don't often get shots like this with my Nexus. This was on a walk with my dog, not something I'd take anything other than my phone with, but a good photo opp came around. Was using the Note7 today. I'll post another great photo that I did take with my Nexus 6P Saturday.

This one was with the 6P and is also excellent. I think the cameras on phones these days are pretty damn good.

The thread is about VIDEO. OIS does not benefit the camera in any way when it is in good light since the shutter speed is already very high. Video, on the hand can benefit very substantially from OIS.

Yes, sorry I went off topic. Video wise I've already replied. No question OIS makes a huge difference unless you have a tripod. If you need good video with quick shifting of focus on a moving object, the 6P is not for you.
