How long before Huawei P20 Pro's camera is beaten - by who?

I will probably buy the P20 Pro.
But how long do you think it is before someone beats the low-light capabilities of the P20 Pro?

(Any guess who might be able to do that first?)

I think the P20 Pro ticks most boxes....the only thing I miss is OIS in 4K, and 4K at 60 fps.

I'm pretty impressed by the P20's camera. However, I feel like the camera app is fair game for most manufacturers. It's anyone's guess who can be the top dog. I think there's very little difference between flagships nowadays - most can go head-to-head with one another and can get a similar "score" based on what their specs, benefits, hardware, etc are concerned - so those manufacturers can probably release upcoming iterations with even less discrepancies. Since this is happening, I think the camera game can be won by pretty much any manufacturer.

I personally think Samsung and LG will up their games next. LG is focusing all of their resources on one phone now; so I'll be watching them closely.

Personally I think flagship cameras all boil down to preference now. Are you willing to accept noise for more color accurate shots (Pixel) ? Or are you willing to sacrifice accuracy for more details (S9).

However, what we're seeing in the P20 is the rebirth of the Nokia Pureview cameras. Interestingly because the guy working for Huawei used to be part of the Nokia Pureview department. And the Nokia 808 and Lumia 1050? hasn't been matched yet until the P20.

Personally though for me it's flagship cameras of whatever brand already tick my boxes. Heck the ones on Samsung and Huawei mid rangers are already good enough for me (no experience on other brand mid rangers). How good a camera is doesn't define my purchases anymore. Lol.

For sure! Even midrange phones can take good photos nowadays!

IF anything is going to beat the P20 Pro anytime soon it would probably be the next Pixel.

Only chance they have is if they join the multi camera club, and even than they need to step up sensor size and pixel count which I don't see happening this late in the design phase.

Personally I don't think anyone will launch better camera hardware this year.

Yeah I wouldn't argue with that. I just have to give kudos to Google for how much they squeeze out one sensor with their software magic. If they do move to dual cameras this time around then they'll certainly close the gap at least.

I really wish Huawei would get motivated by Google's camera software and the success of HDR+ and at least add auto HDR instead of having it as a separate mode.

I agree - they'd have a better chance if they added dual cameras or triple, etc. That being said, camera quality is still really good - but there's no questioning how the P20 line fares. Very intrigued by the photos I've seen.

It may come down to Samsung, Apple and LG, they are the only ones with the R&D Budgets and Human Resources to do it.

I'd be surprised if OnePlus gives it a go, but they face the dilemma of making their phones more expensive.

For sure! OP has a pretty solid reputation as being the "flagship killer" - but that won't hold up if they keep on hiking the prices of their phones!

If the rumours are true, and Google acquire Lytro, I think that will lead to their first foray into multi-lens setups and they will make the next big jump.

Exactly! That is their Unique Selling Point right now.

Going to be very interesting late 2018, to see if anyone can beat Huawei at this point.

As @L0n3N1nja said, it's a bit late at this stage for Google as the Pixel 3 should be in its final development stages.

And in retrospect this goes for Samsung to, the Note9 will probably already set to use the S9 camera, and I don't see them doing anything radical for the Note9 camera when the S10 and Note10 are coming next year.

Apple maybe the one to watch here, as LG don't seem to be in it to win it anymore.

If the P20 Pro had 4k 60fps video I would have bought it.
But now I am waiting..maybe the iPhone X becomes my choice.
