Two months. Read everything for weeks and it took two minutes with z4root. I did it days after 2.2.1 dropped and Apex 1.3.1 ROM is the reason I did it.
Rooting, backup, wiping, loading the ROM took 5 minutes. Navigating clockwork recovery is extremely simple and after every ROM I have to re-load several .zips to get back to usual. I have never had to sbf or had any real issues. I did get stuck in a bootloop when I didn't wipe after loading a new ROM and it would only boot into stock recovery. From stock recovery I did a wipe and all was good after reboot.
I have loaded Apex, Darkslide, Gummyjar, Fission, Liberty, Tranquility, each with their own plus and minuses even though they are all based on the latest 2.2. The great thing about the ROMs is the removal of the majority of the VZW bloatware, blur options, customization options, and all these options do make for a faster more fluid experience. Though its been a month or two since I've done stock so its hard to compare. Stock is fast for sure, just not fast enough.
Im a student on break for 4 weeks though. I have time that most normal working people don't have. That all ends in three days.
I do not understand "Rooting for free wireless tether" especially since this can be done without root, though not without a few extra clicks ;P. If its used in emergency type situations I can understand. From what I have read though people are using it for everything from playing Xbox live to completely replacing their home internet with it, downloading 10+ gigs monthly over VZW network. I cannot see how this helps our community. I only hope that those that abuse it are a small minority so that the eventual backlash is minimal.
I do have the wireless tether app and the TBH patch, though I use it rarely. This month my data is at 1.5 gig over wifi and 256 mgb on network. I am trying to get below 150 mgb to lower my data plan but I doubt I will ever be able to pull the trigger.
