How long do you normally keep your phone?

I keep mine until I break it or it doesn't work right anymore, there just aren't enough compelling reasons to make me switch and blow the $$ since phones are such a mature technology these days.

Currently happy with my S7 which is working great still.

Went from a Huawei Y300 to an iPhone 5, then iPhone 5s (because Touch ID) before getting my S7 Edge. It’s showing its age now, with a physical home button, thick bezels and single (yet still competent even in low light) rear camera and old processor. However, due to the sheer amount of choice right now and upcoming phones I probably won’t upgrade until next year.

When you guys upgrade, do you want a phone that’s better than your old one in every possible way? Or are you content to have incremental/selective upgrades and even some slight downgrades? I go along with the former which makes choosing a new phone quite hard >_<
Well, if we don't count a holdover phone I used for two and a half weeks, I replaced my previous phone (screen died on it after 1.5 years, warranty replacement went to my mom because I needed something that would work here in the US) with a discounted ($300) Galaxy S8. The SoC, screen and camera are YEARS better than on the CAT S41 I used to have. I had to give up ruggedness (I did kinda remedy this one by getting the cheaper $16 OtterBox case for the S8 and a glass screen protector) and the S41's JUICY 5000mAh battery (the S8 only has 3000mAh ). I also gained USB-C with the S8.

I can't see upgrading from my s10+ for at least 3 years.
I don't upgrade unless the lag becomes unbearable or it's behind on Android version.
With all the customization you can do, you can easily make it a "new" phone as often as you want.
I'm the same way honestly.

I think it depends on what you're coming from. If you upgrade annually then more than likely it's going to be iterative. If you wait several years then it will be better in nearly every way

How long do I keep my phones? A long azz time lol. I'm kinda regretting that now though because I don't have much in the way of spare phones to hold the household over through the upcoming trade war Apocalypse :O
When I do upgrade though you're right, I look for a substantial improvement in all areas.

And nice thread you started, thanks I'm really enjoying it ;-)

I'm one of those people that gets a new phone every few months.im jot sure why but I always get bored with whatever phone I have an end up getting a new one. And they aren't always "better"... Just different. Like going from one flagship to another and in some cases stepping down from a flagship to a midrange. I just like cha going it up.

But then you have someone like my wife that has had her iPhone 6s for like 4 years and is fine with it still.

How long do people normally keep their phones and how do you not get bored with it

It's easier for someone to keep an iPhone for years because the experience is roughly the same year after year.

Not to mention that the support is great as well. They only make subtle changes. Face ID, wireless charging, etc. Most people like myself couldn't care less about that.

You bring up a very valid point about why some users will stick with the same iPhone for a few years at a stretch.

I think pixel has a similar (not identical) likely of retention because of the direct updates and I think 3 years of major releases and 5 of security updates.
