How long does it take to get data once you switch carriers and activate your phone?

....to get data once you switch carriers and activate your phone??

I just switched the family from Verizon to T-Mobile tonight around 8pm. The wife and I are using our old phones from Verizon (Moto X and Note 3).

We can make voice calls, but don't have data yet. The T-Mobile rep said it could take up to 24 hours to fully get service.

Just wondering the average time?? For people that switched to T-Mobile using Verizon phones??

Re: How long does it take....

I'm assuming you ported the numbers? The last person I helped through that it took about 5 hours. Also, I'm assuming that you or they already switched through the options in mobile networks, etc to make sure you're set up to utilize the correct new frequencies.

Porting can take up to 24 hours. It's normal honestly.. It took me about 3-4 hours to get full service over to T-Mobile.

No we haven't switched the options in the mobile networks. I remember it's like #*#* and some numbers right?? I tried doing that awhile ago on my Note 3 to switch from 4G to 3G because it was eating my battery, but it wouldn't let me do it. I assumed maybe Verizon blocked it or something.

Nope not yet. I've changed the network mode to GSM and the operator to T-Mobile. I just need to enter the APN settings. But I don't know them. So I'll do a Google search on my lunch break and if I don't find anything I'll just give T-Mo a call.

Voice should work without setting up apn. For data, just set the apn to "fast.t-mobile.com". You will be able to get 4glte on tmobile in lte mode

I did that I found a site that had T-Mo APN setting. I'm still not getting 4G. Fastest I'm getting is HSPA+. I feel like my Note 3 is missing a band or something.

Your Verizon phones will not get 4G LTE on T-Mobile. The best you will get is HSPA+ which can at times be faster.

I was able to get Tmobile 4GLTE on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 when set to lte mode. I have a few Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3's and tried on a few tmobile sims and they all worked on Tmobile's 4GLTE network when set in lte mode for lte only.

Note that you would need the latest update from last month, or root to enable b4 LTE.

I have the update from last month and I entered the 4G APN. But best I get is HSPA+. I don't know why. My wife's Moto X gets 4G though. This is just my temporary phone until the Nexus 5 comes in.

Yeah I've noticed that HSPA+ is as fast as Verizon's 4G here in Seattle. Which is kinda sad on Verizon's part.

I stand corrected. That is good news for people with the latest devices on Verizon who want to make the leap to T-Mobile.

You gotta let me know your APN settings. Because I read that the Verizon Note 3 doesn't support the 1900 LTE frequency. So I'm just using GSM/UMTS mode.

Both Verizon and tmobile use band 4 lte which is 1700/2100 MHz.

I just used the apn "fast.t-mobile.com".

It worked for me when set to lte mode. Not sure why it isn't working for you. Do you have the latest update from Verizon?

I left Vzn 9mo's ago for an S4 on T-Mobile, and when my S4 became active, both voice & data were available to use on my T-Mobile S4, I don't get why voice and data would be active on a new device at separate times.
