how long has your battery lasted F-E

I have noticed that my battery life is significantly worse since I did the sept 16th update.

I was getting about a 1 1/2 days out of my batter. Now I am lucky enough to get a full day.

I have noticed that the battery goes down at least 2 percent per hour WITH SOUND OFF AND AIRPLANE MODE ON!

This is absolutely rediculous. I am almost certain I am returning this phone.

This is simply unacceptable.

I have also noticed that there are many more running services now since the sept 16th update...

WTF are you doing samsung... fix our phones!

Hell, mine was dropping about 1% every minute or so the display was on, regardless of what I was doing (before the update). I could stretch the phone to a day if I barely used it.

My battery life has been great!!!!!

I don't know what is going on but my battery life has been great. I can't be the only one. My first phone had a dead battery at activation. The second phone had more than enough charge out of the box. Maybe I had a defective battery on my first one? I get thru 6-8 hours now with only going thru 50% of the battery. I'm not running anything special, just battery indicator.

I can say that bump-charging DOES NOT work for the Epic. I tried with absolutely no difference and the phone refused to go past 96% for me.

My battery had started to get somewhat decent, but this update that went through this weekend seemed to fry it or something as it is junk now!

I went over 36 hours before a recharge, which was the first time since I've had the phone. Normally all day (10-12 hours) of moderate to heavy use, longer with light to moderate use, 6-10 hours of fairly heavy use, wifi, streaming, IRC, texting, etc.. I have email checking every 15 minutes, wifi only on when I need/want it, 4g OFF since we don't have it here, typically sending/receiving a lot of texts all day, pictures, video, streaming both music and video, surfing the net a little (if I'm not at home near my computer).

Overall, considering the power and features of this phone, the battery life is reasonable, and fairly impressive. It's not as good as my old Instinct, which could go DAYS on one charge before swapping batteries, but that thing was a dog compared to the Epic!

Both my phone and the wife's are significantly WORSE battery wise after the update. My wife barely uses her phone- so for her to have a dead phone - there's a serious problem. Prior to update- she'd have 50% battery by the time she got home.

36 hours? come on! maybe on airplane mode or with no data goign in and out!
Two batteries gets me through the day!

if i go to sprint and get a epic tomorrow will it already have the update on it? I dont want the update so i wanted to know.

They will install whatever updates are available at the store while they are activating it. Maybe DI07 won't be pushed to the device yet. Why don't you want the update?

since installing the update, my phone has gotten worse battery life. I used to be able to go morning to night (about 12-15 hours) without charging. Now I have to charge it by mid-day, even with wifi, 4g, and GPS turned off.

I have found that my standard phone usage is gobbling up the battery life. I use maps a bit and check emails and have a few widgets installed but for the past three days it has been dying rather quickly. Why? It seems that the apps are continuing to run in the background of the device eatting up the power. Fix? DO install Advanced Task Killer app & widget to help you save power. & USE IT frequently during the day.

DO NOT let it DIE DOWN TO 0%! Yesterday, it died totally and completely and had to be wall charged for over four hours (w/ no ability to use any functions--not even an emergency ph call--nothing, nada, zip was doable)!

because if that update is making the battery life and phone worse then i dont want to ever update that.

14 hours since unplugged, still have 65% battery left.

31% went to sensorserver_ya
25% to display
19% to standby
13% to idle
4% to calls,
8% to some games, wifi, android etc.

Pretty not bad. Though I didn't really use the phone much I admit.

may have found a solution

alright so I was reading on the evo forums and they are having the same problems as us... one thing that I noticed is that my phone is not going into sleep mode since the update. its running 100% of the time just with the screen off.

This seems to be the problem.

On the evo forums they seem to think that the talk app by google is causing it not to sleep along with some other.

Can someone who has not done the update go to menu>applications>running services and let me know what you have running there?

the Talk app is constantly popping up along with the media hub, and amazonMP3. I am hoping that if we can get rid of these that the phone will sleep and it will improve our battery life

I have an app that I downloaded called battery status.

it has a battery history. and it says time without sleeping 7h 10m 25s ago.

Thats exactally when I unplugged my phone. So this proves that somehow the phone is not going into sleep mode... I can guarantee that everyone else in this thread is experiencing the same thing and is why the battery is draining so fast.

The question is... why the hell is this happening and why won't the phone go into sleep mode?

This is very interesting... It's outrageous that Google Talk turns on, on it's own.

It's also annoying that ATK can't find/kill Google Talk either, even on the most aggressive settings.

-=WARNING, LONG POST=-
(I apologize)

Not sure if I'm lucky or just haven't used mine that much, but so far it shows that it's been running for 15 hours since last unplugged and I'm currently at ~26-27% of battery life remaining.

Not sure if that's good or not. That's with minimal-to-moderate use. At one point I was using the web browser viewing these forums while also playing some music in the background and replying to texts all at the same time while browsing the Android Market here and there and scanning some barcodes online. But other than that, it's been in sleep mode replying to the occasional texts, although I've been bombarded with texts within the last 2 hours.

Is there any other way (besides downloading that app) to find out how long my phone's been without sleep that vertcobra99 checked? With a battery life like this, I'm assuming it has indeed been to sleep but I want to make sure. Btw, here's how my battery usage is looking like:

Display - 53%
Cell Standby - 17% (Time On: 14h 3m 51s, Time w/o signal: 0%)
Phone Idle - 11%
Voice calls - 7%
Android System - 5%
Media Server - 2%
Android OS - 2%

And as an FYI, this is with the latest update, DI07, updated PRL, bump charged once, airplane mode trick on reboot (been on since then, no shutdown), using ATK and JuiceDefender in Easy Mode along with the casual DCSwitch to shut off the 3g/data when not in use. No hard reset at all.

i think if you can get your display down lower then your battery will go easily over 20 hours...
