How long is it gonna take to receive OTA system update for my brand new nexus 6 ?

I received my new Nexus 6 yesterday from Amazon. I charged it up like a good boy without turning it on. Going through set up I did not install a Sim but completed set up. My nexus started to get updates. First 5,1,1 then 2 security update and then updated to 6.0 ??????. This process took a few hours and 50% of battery. I then installed my project Fi Sim and set that up. This morning I am one happy camper. I am Planning on keeping this phone and Fi for at least till the 2016 nexus. Not a fan of metal phones and no qi charging is a deal breaker for me.

Same story here... received my new Nexus 6 from Amazon yesterday. Charged and set up without my sim card and received a series of updates resulting in marshmallow.

It appears that in most cases you can get your update directly by pulling the SIM using Wifi and FDR the phone.
