How many of you are coming from a Palm device ? ( WebOS/Pre/Pixi )

I dont know about you but I saw maybe 2 commercials for the pre or pixi. That was one of the downfalls of webos was the poor marketing done by sprint and palm. I LOVE webos and being a long time palm user/loyalist I was upset that they werent advertising. Hopefully they will be getting their act together and HP will forces them to use their awesome ad campaign skills and get webOS on the right track. The dream of an epic like phone with webos makes me froth at the mouth, but I just dont see that coming anytime soon. It would be tough now to go back to webos and would only happen if they brought back the true palm features that android has at the hardware level of the epic. Honestly their pursuit of trying to compete soley with the iphone was a HUGE slap in the face to us loyalist palm users. So many of the features that we have come to rely upon were removed and or ruined. So it will take alot from palm to get me back on their side, but Im always willing. Until then I will be an android user and fan.

Plus the advertising campaign they decided to use was so freakin creepy!!! That crazy looking girl and her weird rants about the Pre and WebOS were just not right for advertising!

Treo -> Palm Pre -> Epic.

Loved the pre, but looking forward to moving on to the future of mobile OS, android. Would I have rathered WebOS to be the future? Sure. But that just is not happening.

I'm another long time Palm user (Palm IIIc, Treo 600, 650, 755p, Pre) that switch to Epic 4G on launch day.

While the Web OS UI is 5 stars, the requirements on the hardware is overwhelming. Since this will never actually happen, we can only argue about it. But I think if we did put Web OS (1.5 latest version) on Epic 4G hardware, the phone will still lag.

I say this because while the Epic 4G hardware is head and shoulders above the Pre, I'm sure some of you that came from the Pre overclocked it to 1 Ghz. I know, 1 Ghz on the OMAP Pre processor is not the same as the 1 Ghz Hummingbird processor. But I really think it is also how Web OS is written. When I pull up the contacts app, it would run a few other things before running the app, and then there's so many other things in the background running that it lags just scrolling through the contacts.

My guess is unless Web OS is put on a hardware with a dual core processor (next gen hummingbird?), where a lot of the background functions are put on one core, while the foreground stuff is put on another core, the OS itself is always going to lag.

I had mine at 800 and the phone didnt lag, although it had plenty of minor bugs/issues. The thing is that its not just the clock speed of the processor. A hummingbird or snap dragon at 500/600 compared to a pres CPU would show you the difference in instruction sets and architecture. Webos on the epic would be totally different then on an overclocked pre, but still the minor bugs/issues would be present. That is why palm and hp need to learn from these mistakes and mature the OS before it is completely lost all together.

To be honest I dont remember that ad. All I remember is the one where the chick is walking down the street using a pre.

I am afraid that webos missed its chance to make a mark on the market. I sure hope I am wrong, but being 1 year after release the user base seems to shrink faster each day. I feel the same way about RIM and their new OS. Android has a HUGE market presence, apple will always have their fan base and what are on those two platforms are those dwindling WM, webos and RIM users. I think the only one still able to tred water is RIM and that is because they have a large corporate and government backing. But something tells me that may change soon.

Launch day Pre owner. Got an EPIC less than a week ago. I am loving it, hate that I had to loose all my paid apps but with no real future for HP/Palm I felt it was time.

I am!! The Palm Pre was my first smartphone, and for that, it was a good phone....I'm not one to homebrew (or root for that matter), my feeling is the phone should be a good phone on it's own merit without having to do all the extra work to make it good.

So with that, the Epic ROCKS!!!! I love this thing!!! It does everything I had wished the Pre could've done!!

It took me about a day to adjust to no longer being able to swipe applications away, but I'm finding the Epic very easy to use!! I can deal with not having the ability to swipe away notifications, apps, etc for what all Android has to offer!!!!

I came from WebOS via a brief stint with the Samsung Moment. Was given the Moment by Sprint after excessive excahnges of the Pre. Kept having data lock issues so used upgrade for the Epic

I also came from the Sprint Pre(-), I am loving the Epic 4G. However, I am not giving up on HP/Palm. I intend to keep my Pre, and use it on WiFi only. I want to play with webOS 2.0, and be able to keep my eye on what HP/Palm has up their sleeve.

I signed another 2-year contract with sprint, and that should give HP/Palm enough time to improve the OS or fall flat on their face.

I really don't prefer one OS over the other, they are both great operating system, they just have different learning curves.

I went from WinMo to Pre and never looked back. Recently, I got the EPIC.

I've finally gotten used to the multitasking and navigation and I think I'm becoming a partial Android convert. The PIM apps (email, contacts, messaging) feel like they're a full generation behind the Pre. That's really, really painful. I've tried K-9, but didn't feel like it was an improvement.

Other than those apps, and switching tasks easily, Android is amazing. My wife has commented that I use my EPIC like a tiny laptop, which I consider to be a good thing.

went from an htc touch (crappy crappy phone, went through 2 since the first one stopped charging, second one works perfectly to this day but i hated the OS) to a palm pre (also went thru 2, still have problems but when ever i take it in sprint says they cant reproduce the issue so they say its fine and send me on my way). I do like the OS, but i feel like its time to move up to the big leagues.

I've done tons of research and everything i've heard about android sounds up my alley, and it just seems like the general mindset and openness of how google and android handle things really appeal to me. I get my upgrade dec. 1st and couldn't be more excited for the epic.

I moved from the Palm Pre the day the Epic was available. The Pre was just too tiny for reasonable use other than as a phone. I loved the Touchstone and screen resolution was good but I really couldn't use it much for business apps because of the tiny screen. The screen on the Epic is awesome. However, I've discovered that I rarely ever use the keyboard. Why bother when I can simply say what I want to type and it is entered (with some editing).

My GF's dad is ready to switch. He's able to switch, but wants to switch the entire family at the same time (everyone has pre's). I had a pre, then Hero, now Epic. Things only get better :)

Pre to the Epic. It was a bit sad, but what do you expect when they forgot they had to release phones in order to keep customers on WebOS?

Another one here coming from a Pre. Son has had a Moment since December and wife has had an EVO since release day.

Loving my Epic...

Came from a pre plus on Sprint.

Thought this would be a tougher transition, but it was so smooth and easy. Already liking the Epic and won't dream of taking it back. I may go back to palm/HP IF they release something sometime next year worthy of switching back to. But I'm already thinking even if they do it will be too late. They are taking too long, and I don't know that anyone will care or even be mentioning webOS this time next year.

Only thing I need to figure out is a car mount/charging solution for my epic now. The touchstone in the car was SO sweet. Wish I had a similar setup for the epic. But I'll figure something out I'm sure.....
