How many of you have more than 1 cell line?

How many of you have more than one cell phone line? Not counting family lines but more than one line that you use for yourself such as a line for work and one for personal use. I have one line on AT&T and am thinking about getting another on Verizon. I go places for my work that I loose connection on one or the other and it would be nice but expensive to have a second line on another carrier to fill in the gaps.

to be honest.. sounds horrible.. isnt getting a bill from one carrier enough?

is your work going to be picking up the tab on these bills?

I've got four lines for my wife and I. The way I justified it:

If I pay the 9.99 a month for 20 months (the cost of adding a line per month on a family share)...we're at 200 bucks. If the difference between full retail and the subsidized price is more than 200 bucks...I add a line. Hell, even if it's the same, I still add a line. I can make more money off of interest rather than giving it directly to Verizon in a lump sum.

Also by having so many lines, I have upgrade dates nearly twice a year...so I'm always approaching an upgrade date. :)

I'm tempted to pay the extra 9.99 a month for a line that I would never use, just to get the razr. And also to have a better chance for upgrade every 12 months. Like user posted above me. Plus I have two other people on my plan, in which I can use to get good fones.

I have a Verizon line for my smartphone and a T-Mobile line to keep my throwback GSM phones alive.

Would you just add the line, then swap phone numbers so that your current one goes onto the new phone?

Isnt it more than adding $9.99? The new line has to have a data plan too correct?

What people end up doing is activating a dumb phone on the additional line so that you don't need the data plan. I did it myself a while back. The extra line ended up being $12.67 per month after taxes and fees.

Thanks... so how does the activation do down?

I have a DX2. I preorder a RAZR or any 4G phone for that manner.

The phone is delivered. I go online to activate the new line and accept the Terms and Conditions.

But I never activate the 4G phone on the new line, instead I activate a dumb phone on the line and drop the data plan. Then activate the 4G phone on the intended line.

Is this the order of business?

My other question: is the 4G SIM pre-programmed to the additional line, thus necessitating a trip to a local VZW store and picking up a new SIM? Or will the SIM shipped with the phone work on the intended line since it was never activated on the additional line?

I'm pretty sure you have to activate the 4G phone on the new line before you can swap it over to your current line (at least that's how it's been for me in the past), but others may chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. Once that is done, you go online and do a device swap and activate a dumb phone on the new line which will negate the data charge.

As for the SIM card, I think you'd have to go to the Verizon store and get a new one for your current line since you only have a 3G phone at the moment. Once again, others may correct me if I'm wrong.

The rep in the activation department I just spoke to about this said that activation is done on the new line. After that you call Verizon and tell them you want to switch the phone to the other line and drop the data plan. He did not mention anything about having to go into a store for a 4G sim card.

That is correct. If you activate a new line with a 4G smartphone and then transfer it to your current line (3G assumed), then you'll have to go to Verizon to get a new Sim card. 100% correct.

Yeah, that makes sense now that I think about it. A number would be tied to a sim card. I guess I don't mind going into the Verizon store to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Yes I had 4 lines and a modem but I am down to 3 lines and a modem. I use the Casio GZone phones for the other two lines and the Smart Phone. If a GZone phone gives out, that would be a rare thing, I can buy another from eBay. Saving my upgrades because the Motorola phones are just not that hardy.

But of course.

Actually, that is NOT true. this is what I did to get my new Razr. The verizon rep even suggested it. They just went back through my records and after the switch, activated one of my OLD RAZR clamshells on that "new" line. No Data, $9.99/month.

Those Casio phones are beasts.
