How much app storage does the Evo have?

Some places say 1GB and some say 512Mb.

Can anyone clarify how much it has our of the box? I assume 1gb should be sufficient but how come htc didn't make it 8gb or 16gb like the Galaxy phones and Droid X?

i think it's 512MB for your apps and data. this isn't a big deal for me since i don't load up a lot of third party apps and i have plenty left BUT i think this is the one and only area that HTC scrimped on the EVO. i guess their thinking is move apps to the SD card via Froyo 2.2 if needed.
