How much longer will this Droid be on us market?

With all the rumors and speculation going around I'm going to predict the Droid 2 will be released on Verizon as early as December 2010 or early January 2011. With that said, the 1st generation Droid has had such a positive impact on the Android OS that I can't see Verizon doing an end of life on it right after Droid 2 comes out. But maybe within 1-3 months after.

I think it will follow a similar life cycle as the BlackBerry Storm 1. It will stay out and eventually be free for a while when the Droid 2 comes out and then be phased out.

I think this Droid will be a mainstay for a few more months unlike the Storm1. RIM had that replacement planned just weeks after its release...lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but other than the N1 and the less powerful Moment, the Moto Droid is the only phone that is running stock Android and has specs that enable it to run Froyo. Obviously the N1 gets the upgrades first but the Droid, all things considered, isn't too far behind when OS upgrades are pushed out. And as far as I know the Moment just got 2.1 within the past few weeks or so, which is rather late compared to the good ol' Droid.

I say all that to make the point that the Droid still has appeal, or should still have appeal, to those looking for the newest and greatest thing because it's going to get Froyo, and most likely Gingerbread, before any of the other phones running Sense or MotoBlur. I'd say that's a pretty big selling point for consumers and reason for Verizon to keep it around for a while.
