How much space do I really need available?

I was (for no reason I can actually think of) unhappy to notice my hero had only 39 megs free internal phone storage, so I uninstalled all the junk I don't really ever use. I now only have 41 megs available, though I am sure what I deleted amounted to much more than 2 megs. TWO QUESTIONS:

1. How much is "too low?" and
2. How do I find and remove files that must be abandoned (or temporary files) that waste space?

My hero feels sluggish lately, but I have no stats to support my belief.

To clear up any lag HTC suggests powering down your phone and then pulling the battery for 30 seconds.

As far as what's too low, I really don't have any idea, but I try to keep my Hero around the 40 mark and everything seems to be fine.

Make sure to clear the browser cache on occasion. That can grow to be very large. I think the lag is due to long many apps you have installed. Hopefully this will be resolved in the 2.1 that is coming.

That did not make any difference for me, but thanks for the suggestion.

That let me free up 9 megs (strange, since I rarely use the browser!), but it did not help with the sluggish behavior. I, too, can hardly wait for 2.1.
