How much storage space does an app use?

Under settings/Apps there is a list of apps together with the number of megabytes it ostensibly uses. I can click on that and see those megabytes divided into App and Date use.

But...

Today I uninstalled "Real racing 3", which claimed to use up 84MB (app+data). Immediately after that, the amount of free storage climbed with a whooping 1.14GB !
(and total "App" usage decrased by the same amount).
Is there a more reliable way to find out how much space an app is using?

Sorry, please clarify--do you mean that the storage used by Real Racing climbed to 1.14 GB, or that your available storage actually increased by 1.14 GB?

It's likely that Real Racing had to download additional files after you first started it, and that should show up as Data in the Storage section of the App Info.

Available storage increased by 1.14GB after uninstalling the racing program.
The program certainly did download a lot of extra stuff when it was first run, but that was apparently not included in the App info/Data numbers.

Any additional downloaded files should be listed in the App Info page as Data, so that's a little strange. The 84 MB you're quoting is what was seen on the App Info page in Settings>Apps, as opposed to the filesize listed in Google Play Store, right?

Yes, the 84MB was from Settings/Apps just prior to uninstalling. Maybe there's a bug in Real Racing 3 - it didn't report the size of its extra downloads to the OS?

Either a bug in the app or a bug in the firmware. What happens if you reinstall it?
