How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyone?

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm not waiting any longer. I've decided it's not that exciting of a phone when I compare it to other new phones that just released within the last 4-6 weeks.

I'm leaving for AT&T and getting the white Skyrocket next week. The specs are more than good enough to hold me for a 2 year contract with AT&T and I'll be set for LTE when it arrives in my area. HSPA+ will be just fine until then.

So you leave for a phone that has no better specs than the nexus yet were complaining because the nexus doesn't have that good of specs?

C'mon, I'm not looking for an argument but the specs are clearly better on the skyrocket. ICS is a new OS and I'll gladly wait till it's stable in a couple months.

I'm not arguing but what specs are really better? I am just curious because the way I look at it the specs aren't better but maybe you look at it different?

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm nursing a motorola droid atm.

And I do mean nursing.

Yesterday I got a phone call from home, couldn't answer it. The thing just froze up, and when I tapped on answer call, it just froze up again, wouldn't let me hear the other person, and it went straight to missed call.

I tried to hover over the notifications bar to see the missed call and try to call home, and it froze, it took forever for the bar to drop down, and then wouldn't let me tap on the missed call to go to the phone. I couldn't press power or any of the other buttons for that matter and had to remove and re-insert the battery to get it to work again.

This has happened before, several times. Things will crash for no reason. Wifi doesn't work at home and barely works outside. OTA updates don't install, contacts will get messed up for no reason, there's a humongous lag with everything I do, and sometimes the GPS will die during the most important times.

One night it even said "Searching for network" when I was at home, and setting my alarm before going to sleep. It's never done that before, so I restarted. Same issue. I decided to wait until morning, and it somehow fixed itself. However a bigger problem arose. The alarm never went off. It stopped working for whatever reason for over 2 weeks. And that's the only alarm I have to wake me up in the morning. It still doesn't work.

So yes, a new phone is definitely needed and I've waited and nursed this thing long enough. My upgrade date is december 10th and I hope the nexus is out around that time. Otherwise I will have to go with something else and possibly blow a gasket.

If the phone is purported to come out a few days or even a week after the 10th I won't mind. But if it's pushed beyond the end of January, I will blow a gasket.

You may have tried these things already, but just in case you haven't, first make sure you have over 30 mb of internal phone storage available. (delete apps, clear cache, etc) then do a battery pull for at least 1 minute. See if that helps at all.

I will have to check on that. But thanks!

Are you sure you have a Droid and not a BB Storm 1 or 2? This has standard operating procedure for my Storm 2 since I took it out of the box. I feel your pain.

I couldn't agree with you more. I can't wait until this phone comes out :'(

I hated the Storm 1 with a passion! I pre ordered the Incredible and it's been pure bliss ever since. The difference is night and day. Have you ever used an Android device? If not, I'm not sure you're fully prepared for the amount of awesome you're in for. Either way I tip my hat for the patience you must have in not smashing your phone against a wall!

I am going to buy the nexus. The only thing I'd buy before this Nexus is next years Nexus.

I will wait indefinitely.

I'm not really waiting for the phone to be released, since I won't get it till after christmas anyways. I just like hanging around these forums for the drama :]

Enjoy your new phone and AT&T service.

I was lucky enough to experience both the Storm 1 and Storm 2. This will be my first android device. It's been a long 2 years and I've been looking for the perfect phone since July. I'm glad I was able to hold off, however it hasn't been easy. These last 2 months have been torture.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

If you waited this long you may as well wait it out. The best thing I did was rent a Razr though.....its taken the edge off...for the most part. The Razr is my first Android phone and I got to say that I definitely see why people like Android over Apple. I can't wait to get the GN. I was curious if Google releases a Nexus (vanilla) phone every year.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

The longer somebody has to wait for a phone loaded with ICS with a 1.2 ghz dual-core processor, the less attractive that device is. A year ago, it would have been amazing. A year from now, it will be pathetic. Right now, it's right on par with what you'd expect (having the advantage of ICS, though). There will, however, be a turning point where this phone will no longer be impressive enough to drop $700 on it.

ICS is a big advantage as you will soon find out.

I'm waiting. The only reason I don't already have the GSM version is because it doesn't have LTE. HSPA+ is nice, but at least for me, I can't go back to it after pulling 8-12 Mbps down consistently on my Thunderbolt. That and I've learned my lesson: if you want the latest versions of Android, get the Nexus. I'm done with waiting for OEM's and carriers to update phones because of Sense, Touchwiz, etc. I could root, sure, but it isn't for me.

That's kind of why I won't leave VZW (That and the coverage). HSPA+ is really fast in my city but LTE is insane. I once got over 30mb/s down on my Xoom. To answer the OP question, I'll wait as long as it takes

ICS is awesome. I bought a cheap fascinate and installed it to hold me over until the nexus launches since my og droid was dying. ICS turned an average phone into an awesome phone. I can only imagine how much better it will be on an hd screen with dual core processor, more ram and memory, etc.

Haha! it seems like a lot of us are finding alternatives to hold us over until the VZW GN arrives. My alternative is a expensive one but, I don't regret it.

Yeah I think the fascinate will hold me over but not having the actual nexus will only make it that much better once it is released.
