How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyone?

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm currently using a Droid RAZR and the extended return period while waiting for the Galaxy Nexus, even though I didn't originally plan on just "renting" the RAZR. I had originally picked up the Motorola because I thought I wanted a thinner phone but it turns out that I feel the RAZR is a little too thin to handle comfortably sometimes. I'm also disappointed in the camera as I have a 2 year old niece who does a lot of cute camera worthy things and the pics don't seem to turn out too well. Regardless of the timeframe, the Galaxy Nexus will be my next phone, even if it is released after my return window is up and I have to pay full retail for it. The allure of a pure Nexus device is way too strong for me to pass it up.

Its not going to be any more "locked" than the GSM version. Verizon has no say in this as its a Google Phone. Its not a Moto device which are forcibly locked down by VZW.

You seem to think that Google actually has enough stroke to tell VZW what to do. Funny. If VZW wants the bootloader locked down it will be, and I for one won't be surprised if it does occur. This isn't the iPhone where there is one a year and not carrying it would cause significant loss in customer base. This is an Android phone and there are quite a few of those being released, announced, etc., on a daily basis. VZW doesn't need NY ONE Android device and that is why this phone is coming with VZW branding on the battery cover and VZW apps installed.

The bootloader isn't encrypted. We know this. And I hardly think a logo on the battery cover and 2 apps - MyVerizon and Backup Assistant - suggest that this is going to be some sort of bloated, non-Nexus device.

moto is the only one who locks and encrypts their bootloaders(samsung, lg, etc all unlocked on vzw) but yet verizon requests all OEM's to lock them down..right.

I don't really understand the whole update thing being a huge pro. If most other phones have unlocked bootloaders, wouldn't those get updates from custom roms just as quickly? I mean, the nexus isn't even out yet and it seems late to the party as far as ics goes. I'm probably alone on this but I hate stock android anyway haha.

they will get updates but it still won't be as good as what google gives(most of the time) + you would have to hope the dev's continue to update their roms or your phone. With a new device coming every other week it can make some dev's get away from certain phones since there are newer high end phones they want to develop for. Have you used ICS? because that is a whole new "stock android" and if you have not it is nothing like stock gb or froyo was.

The quality and quantity of custom roms depends on the size of the community that forms around the device. Historically, no devices have had developer communities as large as the what the nexi have received. As far as updates from google vs from oems: no one should ever "have" to root their phone in order to be up to date and most people don't, so they are left out of all the new goodies in each update.

1) Software is more important than hardware. Look at the i*hone. Okay specs, smooth as hell user experience. I don't care if I have an octo-core 5GHz phone if it goes slow.

2) Custom ROMs are nice but they're not as good as the original. I love my OG Droid but I know 2.3.7 isn't supposed to feel this way.

3) The Galaxy Nexus is out and doing fine.. please go back to worshiping your Rezound.

4) You're not the only person that hates stock. I do agree that skins give you a bit funner user experience but the negatives outweigh the positives IMO. You get a cool-looking phone at the cost of a slower phone.

If you feel like I was rude in this post, blame it on the HTC Rezound trolls that visit this section of the forums.

My post was by no means a troll. I was merely asking a question. I'm also enjoying my Rezound, but I'm not worshipping it lol. To each his own your last point. My phone is plenty fast with sense or a custom launcher.

I hated the Storm 1 with a passion! I pre ordered the Incredible and it's been pure bliss ever since. The difference is night and day. Have you ever used an Android device? If not, I'm not sure you're fully prepared for the amount of awesome you're in for. Either way I tip my hat for the patience you must have in not smashing your phone against a wall!

Funny post. I have had a Storm 1 since day one when it came out. Can't even remember when that was...

I tried the Bionic (total junk/problems) for two weeks and was glad to have my Storm 1 back!

So, I am probably more anxious from an equipment standpoint then anyone here!!

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

Grandfathered into unlimited data with Verizon for as long as they continue it. Using the OG Droid I will wait for the GN. I simply don't want a phone with OEM skins on it. If I want to customize the phone further I will use a launcher or something like that.

Was not able to upgrade until September of this year so I will wait for the GN.

Processor: 1.2 vs 1.5. I figure the OEM skin and bling takes up the .3 difference between the processors ...so I don't care that much.

Don't care that much about the 5mp camera either.

Think of the technical progress that will happen within the next two years....so if my GN is not longer update able in two years...I will simply get another phone at that time.

The cycle continues.
