How so I use the floating dock ?

I have a Huawei ascend and I've looked up how to use the floating dock but the only explanations I've found only give lists of what they do but they don't specify which buttons do what. I've searched your site but only found posts about wanting to remove it. Id like to know how to use it. Any help would be appreciated.
