How stop/disable/turn off the various tracking apps in stock HTC Evo ?

Have found a lot of general info,
and even more dime-store philosophizing,
but, can someone provide...

...a list of the apps on a stock Evo that do tracking ?

...a guide to stop/disable/turn off each of these tracking apps ?

Thanks

What do you mean by "tracking app?"

LoL... think he's been watching to much CNN.

He's thinking about that appears apple put in ios4. If there was one you can believe the devs would have found it by now.

menu/settings/location...hit "Location Setting" and set it to "OFF" if you're worried about it. It was the 2nd or 3rd question the phone asked you about it when you first fired it up. You just can't disable it in the iPhone apparently, and even when it is turned off, it still tracks on the iPhone...

I saw on XDA that our phones do indeed track our location and use GPS, wifi, and cell networks. If you're rooted you can use an app called location cache to see where you have been, plot it on a map, delete the cache file, and prevent another one from being made. Ill get a screen shot up in a sec.

all phones track. it's how 911 can find us.

apple has a glitch in the fact that it's not anonymous. everyone can see.

Yes, but when you turn off the location tracking, ONLY 911 (and the FBI, CIA, NSA, and Creepy Stalker Ex's who put an app on your phone) can track you. I'm not worried about it honestly as I have nothing to hide. My map would look like Home, Work, Home, Work, Groceries, Home, Car Wash, Girlfriends house, Home, Work, repeat.

I am with you on that. I understand the whole big brother mentality, and not wanting people to know where you have been, but I am like RkyMtnHigh. I haven't been anywhere that I wouldn't want people to know about. Besides, I thought android only tracks towers and wifi locations, and only the most current. It is stored in a cache on the phone which needs root access to get at it.

thanks ... that was very interesting .. great app.

funny thing.. last week it had me in Ok and a few days later in NY.

i have never seen my phone off location before when in google maps.

Maybe he is taking about carrier iq. As far as I know you must root to stop carrier iq. I'm on a rom that has it removed completely on the epic.

i don't think there is a way to stop your phone from tracking.

911 has to find you. i beleive it's a govt standard that was imposed a few years back.

I don't think there is a way to atop it tracking, but there is a way to stop it from making a log of where you have been.

The Android phones claim they will stop the location based tracking if you check the box to know under location tracking. No idea if it's true, but they claim it stops. 911 is a different animal once you call them. they get a lat and long on you and slap it on a map.

we are talking about 2 things here.

1. tracking and keeping a record of it. which leaves a file on the phone with all that tracking in place.

2. tracking where the phone is at that particular time. 911/emergency services only need the location at the time of the incident.

you can get rid of the recorded file.. and the phone can still know where it is for currently needed services.
