My kids (ages 7,9 & 10) have all worked their butts off and saved up to buy themselves a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7" each.
We only allow them access to the internet on the family pc, in the living room, in full view. They are good kids but it's all too tempting for them to go exploring on sites that aren't suitable and too easy for an innocent search to go haywire with a couple of innocent clicks. They are not allowed to have facebook/instagram accounts like their friends, I still want them to have face to face friendships and so much nastiness comes out on facebook, even with adults.
I can use my Google Play account to download apps for them and keep it password protected. My wifi has a security code, so they currently don't have wifi access unless I connect it, and at the moment I only connect it to download new apps.
But, they would all like to access Spotify, we are big music lovers. They need access to the wifi for that and I don't want to have to connect it every time they want to listen to a song, and also don't want them disappearing in their rooms with internet access. I want to find a way to keep them connected to the wifi but not regular web access.
I have thought of going through their tablets and deleting the browser widgets/apps. Do you think this would work?
I know about all the safe searching type programs like NetNanny, but I don't want them to be able to search the web at all unsupervised. All they need is wifi for their apps to run.
All the blocker apps I have found seem to be aimed at preschoolers. My kids are at that inbetween stage. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
