How to block unwanted texts?

I'm trying to block unwanted texts from spammers. I'm using Message+ Version 6.6.5. (When I bought the Note, the Verizon dude set it up -- I didn't realize at the time that there were other texting apps available.) Anyway, Message+ apparently doesn't have an option for blocking texts. Should I grab a blocker from the Playstore? Or should I replace the texting app -- if so, what's the best one to use? And will I be able to import the existing text messages from Message+ or will I lose all the messages?

BTW, I do realize that spammers change their numbers faster than I can block them, but I have to do something. Starting this morning, I've been flooded with spam calls, but I know how to block those. I just don't know how to block the texts.

TIA.

BlackList has a variety of options for both voice and text calls.
That app is old and hasn't been updated since 2015. I stopped using it several years ago because it just stopped working to block calls. I have been using Truecaller with lots of success in blocking calls. The app also blocks text messages.

When other users report a spam caller/text, it gets flagged to everyone using the app so that it gets blocked to them as well.

Thanks for the responses. I installed Truecaller, but I can't figure out how it works (I'm old). It's asking me if I want to set Truecaller as my SMS app. If I do that, what happens to my Message+ app (and the many text messages that are in it)?

I tried to find some kind of FAQ or help file that would help with this and other questions, but couldn't find anything.

I'm not sure what it does or how it works for SMS as far as the app goes. I only use it to block calls. You can try this app to block messages and if you don't like it, you can change your default messaging app back to what it was previously.
