How to capture a screenshot, with and without an app on Froyo DK28

This feature is built into Froyo, not by Samsung. Sammy has nothing to do with the operation of this feature. There are quite a few different market apps available for nice screen shots. Rooted or stock there are options available.

I did see on the froyo leak for the verizon phone that screen capture works by pressing back + power, maybe on the next release of epic froyo it will work that way, would be a better option.

I did this and found that there was an additional Screen shot I had made in Portrait mode before I read about this.. so there is some sort of other button combo that does this without the 1/4 slide out ... If I can recreate it I will post.

Holding the capacitive back key and hitting home will "sometimes" work in portrait mode. Most of the time it will only do one of two things, go "back" or bring up the task manager.

@Mobius360, yes I see that..

Along with a bunch of other things missing from DK28 Froyo

So nothing available to do this now with the update? No app, no button combo?

Is there something still available if you happen to have the EB13 update rooted?

Sure if your rooted then you have many apps available for screen shots. Just search screen shot in the Market.

I would like to believe some of these options from DK28 Froyo are still in EB13 and are disabled. We will have to keep an eye on the ROMs and see if the devs are able to find and unlock these things..

I have noticed that there is a screenshot app/setting when I was backing up.. Do you think that can be just copied/installed over? DK28 and EB13 cannot be that much differerent, no?

Like I said I wouldn't doubt its in there and for whatever reason Sammy disabled it. The Android Setup Wizard is also hidden which we had in Froyo DK28...

Custom ROMs will bring many of these things back I bet.

random screen captures taken

So, I can't seem to duplicate it on purpose but my Epic will randomly take screen captures.. There's no rhyme or reason to how it's being done. I know it has to do with the home button but I can't figure out the key combo that triggers it. I assume it's a feature built into the Samsung software. I'm currently running MidnightROM but I know this isn't a feature of the ROM - maybe a feature of Froyo DK28? Anyone figure out how to use this regularly? This always happens with the keyboard closed.

Re: How to capture a screenshot, with and without an app on Froyo

well, I was soooo excited when i read this post, but quickly became saddened when my phone didnt do the screenshot :'( I tried both ways of going about it, just like you explained and my phone still won't take a screenshot. maybe my epic can't do it? i mean, its a samsung epic 4g, the galaxy s 1, so idk? help. I'd much rather not downlaod an app or root my phone

Re: How to capture a screenshot, with and without an app on Froyo

UN official leaked Froyo DK 28 was the only version that allowed screen shots with out rooting or an app.
