Hangout notification always pops up as a banner in my Lollipoped N5. How do you change the setting so that it'll appear as usual notification?

I think that is how it is coded in the ROM. The whole heads up thing so you con one click right to the notification.

I think what you're looking for is this:

Go to your Settings -> Sound & Notification. At the bottom is App Notifications, press this and find the app you want to change e.g. Hangouts, select it and you should be able to switch it off there

Thanks. But no option in App Notification.

You have to set your security option to use a pattern, PIN or password to unlock the phone. If you do that, then the option @omnicubegames mentioned above will show up on that screen.

This doesn't stop the banner from popping up unless you disable the notification altogether.

But my Quora notif only appears as an icon on the top left. How can it be so? Why can Quora appear only as an icon without sound, without vibrate, but other apps cannot?

I mentioned this in another thread, but it is quite possible that the Android SDK allows each application to control the way its notifications are displayed on the lock screen. Quora was updated less than a week ago, which means it may have taken advantage of such an SDK feature. If that is the case, we will see more applications utilizing that option in the coming months.

But Quora has behaved like that since Kitkat. I don't remember if I did anything to it.
It's very helpful becoz Quora's notifs are a barrage

Anyone find a fix to this yet? All notifications now from Hangouts and apps like whatsapp show as a huge banner with the entire details in the notification bar. Only way to get it off is to swipe up. SO if you're in the middle of emailing , gps or any other app...the banner remains with the entirety of the message until you swipe. Quite annoying....
