How to clear internal storage

I'm having a weird issue. I upgraded to the new modem and blazer rom 1.6. Now I'm getting a message saying my internal memory is almost full. My phone is saying I have 12 gig used. I don't know if one thing has something to do with the other, but I never had this issue before. When I look at what's taking up memory, it says the largest file is 17.77 mb. Could it be the system back up I made. I can't download any apps because I only have 288 Mb left on the phone. Can anyone lend a hand, I'm a noob. I went into Recovery and did a factory data reset, and reflashed the rom but I'm still showing 12gig used.

which phone did you get (16 or 32gb) do you have an external sd card? If you have already flashed your Rom. You can plug into your computer and moved the Rom zip to your computer. Also look for a folder called clockworkmod. Open it and then open the backup folder. How many backups do you have there? If you have more than one move the extras to your computer.
