Android Central Question

Hello,

I am not able to connect my phone with external hard disk.
My gadget details are:
-Samsung S8
-Western Digital 2TB in NTFS format
-Y type splitter cable for external power supply
-OTG adapter
-Tried Total commander & Paragon exFat usb app

Samsung J6 mounted smoothly with this setup. But don't know why my Samsung S8 is not mounting the drive.
Note: Seagate 2TB mounted with all the above specifications. But not WD.

Please help.

First - you can't power the phone in OTG mode. OTG turns the USB data lines into input lines - and the power lines into output lines.

Second, unless you run an app that can translate NTFS (or root the phone and get down to the Linux level using a terminal app), an Android phone can't read NTFS - ext3, 4, FAT, FAT32 or exFAT are about all it can read. exFAT/NTFS/HFS+ for USB works without root.

[Solved]

Culprit was the OTG connector which came along with the phone.

I just bought a local OTG connector and plugged in the hard drive. It detected the hard drive.

Summary:

To connect Samsung S8/J6/A6 to hard disk (NTFS format), you require:

-OTG connector

-Total Commander app

-Microsoft exFat/NTFS usb app (Trial= 2 days, Rs.49=Full license)

Note: You do not need any external power supply (Y type) cables for this. Just plug n play.
