General question to all: how do you decide when trying new kernels, which one will go with which rom and what's the proper steps to flashing it? I would appreciate everyone and anyones input!

Well you'll want to make sure the kernel supports your Android version and flavor. If your running a sense ROM make sure and flash a Sense kernel.. Same goes for AOSP. For flavor, if your running Gingerbread make sure you flash a compatible kernel. I'm not familiar with all the EVO kernels but read through the threads and see which one suits your needs.

You can flash kernels through ROM manager, same as a ROM, just only wipe dalvik. Same goes for recovery

For AOSP roms: Tiamat is a good one. 3.3.7 is very popular. Also, Savaged-Zen is another popular kernel. You just have to try them out. One kernel might work best for one person, but that same kernel might not for another.

It's been too long to remember the Sense kernels, but the same goes for them. Just have to use one that is meant for Sense.

When installing kernels, all I do is wipe cache and dalvik cache. I always do it from recovery.

I too am interested in Which sense kernel would be best for me. I am running the stock rom.

I use Golden Monkey for any gingerbread + sense roms.

There is another one called the Freedom Kernel. YMMV. Like Smoke crawler says, you have to experiment and see which is best for you.

Hey smokecrawler on the tiamat 3.3.7 do I want sbc or the other?

Well I took the leap and am now sporting a brand new 3.3.7 tiamat kernel on my phone and will try it out for the next week to see how it fairs compared to the cyanogenmod kernel (I think that was 2.6.37.6). I was trying to find a link to that kernel incase I want to go back to it, does anyone know where I might get it?

did you backup the ROM before you applied the Tiamat kernel? If so, when you restore, it will be there.

I don't know of any site but get the Kernel Manager from TeamWin in the market. You just need the lite version and that kernel will be the first one on the list.

I used this app once when it first came out to see what it was like. Some times it installed fine and some times it caused a bootloop. It could of gotten better since then but I just prefer to do everything manually as I have better luck doing so. My suggestion would be go into Advance Options and uncheck all 3 options and just install it yourself.

well i went the smart route and stayed away from the sbc variety, id rather not take a chance quite yet, although i am sure i will some day..........thanks guys!
