I can't stand that piece of garbage assistant that randomly keeps popping up thinking I called her and also appears in the Camera app sometimes when I am trying to take a photo.

She is no different than Micro$h4ft's Cortana so here's how to disable her firstly, and secondly, we can remap that button to launch any app you want.

1) Install Package Disabler Pro
2) Enable its admin mode
3) in the search bar, type Bixby and disable all but the things you see unchecked in the picture below because if we disable those, the Bixby button won't function altogether:

4) Install Bixby Button Remapper

5) Run it and enable the accessibility service

6) Now choose what function you want for your Bixby Button. I chose Flashlight since I can launch the camera by double tapping on the power button quickly but feel free to choose whatever you think you use most

Does this still work after the latest update? I'm sure it won't in some other update. Yes, another way to disable it will pop up, but still. You do know you can mostly disable Bixby (except for the button) with stock settings, right?

Well I have the Dual Sim version and my OS is:
Samsung Experience Version 8.1
Baseband version: G950FXXU1AQG5

I just did it a couple of hours ago and it's working.

So how to disable Bixby completely without this then?

I have the latest update on Sprint and it works for me!

Open Bixby, go to the menu button, then Settings, disable Bixby Voice there and scroll down to disable notifications. Like I said, the only thing you can't get rid of from stock is the button (and Bixby Home), but if you're infuriated by the notifications, just turn them off.

I have all permissions blocked, firewall blocks everything that has Bixby in it. All access to everything denied. I never get a peep out of him.

Package disabler has always worked no matter what update came out, Samsung has never blocked it. The Bixby remapper is the only thing that Samsung blocked and that was only for a few hours while the dev reworked it.

It's not that big of a deal to me

Bixby doesn't bother me because I have deleted the Samsung account associated with my phone. Now, if I want to even use Bixby I'd have to have that account. So for me Bixby is in sort of limbo and in effect doesn't exist.

I do, however, want to remap the button. I hate the idea of installing 3rd part software to do this though, especially if it's "free."

Afraid of potential spyware and data mining, eh?

And did it cost, someone would say it should have been free.
Free isn't inherently bad, but it tends to get a bad press due to how some people opt to make their app "free".

Or they just don't get any benefit from it.

I've tried a couple of the different Bixby button remapping apps and I am not impressed. The problem is, Bixby still has to launch before whatever action you choose will happen. I've found this to be slow and wonky. I haven't tried using package disabler first though. Does that make things smoother? I too want it for my flashlight. I might have to give this a whirl.

even with Package disabler, you will get that brief bixby popping up from the side. I'd take that any time of the day over having that virus called Bixby

I feel like the people who disable Bixby are the ones that can't stop talking about it.

Somewhat yes and no. Some simply jump into the threads where they are asked why by people -- others are here asking how to do it. :P.

I just find it funny. I use Bixby a few times a day. Mostly for alarms, reminders and hands free stuff. Other than that it hardy affects me enough to talk about it. It's settled into another Siri. Just sitting in the background until I need it.
