How to disable Google talk?

I've been getting random people/spam? trying to start conversations with me which show up in notification bar. I don't use Google talk at all...is it possible to remove or kill the service?

Log out or you can disable it.

Care to be more specific how exactly you logout? Is it part of Google+? When I tap Google+ under Settings, Accounts, Google nothing happens?

NVM Found it settings, apps, tap ALL at top, find Talk, tap disable

If you're in the app. Goto settings and select logout/no auto sign in.

Be aware that disabling the Talk application without properly signing out first can leave your account shown as 'signed in'/'online' in Talk.
