how to disable "Updates Available" notifications

Every time I turn on my new phone I get a Notification of Updates Available with "15 updates found." I don't want any of these updates. Some of the applications I use and want to keep, others I have no idea what they are. And at this point I don't really want to have to spend the time to figure out what these things are. I also see no way to decline individual updates. When I exit out of this window the Updates Available does not display with the other notifications, but it reappears each and every time I turn the phone off and back on. Is there a way to simply not have these appear (Is there not an option where you have to seek them out rather them have them try to force themselves on you each and every time you turn on the phone?) What if I just want to continue to use an out-of-date version of something? Is this even possible to are you just harassed into submitting to the update? Thanks for any help!

The option to disable is in the Google Play in App settings.

Go into Google Play > Touch the Menu Button (The one next to the Home Button) > Settings > Uncheck Notifications (Notify me about updates to apps or games that I downloaded)

As per above you can certainly turn them off...but it seems crazy to disable a huge feature of apps...pushed update notifications. Certainly you have some apps that you use and want to keep updated, no?

The easy way is to just turn it off but the smart way would be to uninstall the apps you don't want/need so that you aren't receiving updates for them. That way you can continue to receive updates for the apps you do want - and having up to date apps is often important.

Even if you have some apps on your phone - like Google Play Books - that you didn't install, can't uninstall, and don't care about...is it that much of a hassle to just update it and let it be? It's not like these apps are updated every day or even every week.

Just my 2 cents.

P.S. You can update all your apps at once (except some exceptions that require individual or "manual" updates) by clicking the update all icon on the top right of the updates screen.

What you say is true, but turning off update notification does not mean you can't update an app. I've noticed that several of the updates for the apps I use makes the apps worse recently, aka FlipBoard, Talkatone, Skype, Facebook, etc. So I decided to turn off the notifications and just update them when I remember too or when a problem occurs in the app.

Thank you all for the feedback. I should have been able to figure this out myself, I guess, but hadn't yet realized that my old HTC marketplace was really the "new" Google Play. I will likely update some applications at some point, but I don't want to be reminded every hour that updates exist and for me to have to clear the list only to have it reappear again and again. Also, like xKrNMBoYx said very eloquently, many updates, for me at least, are not actual desired improvements, and if it aint broke please don't change it... Thank you all.
