[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Help lol

Iet me know if you need help with adb, it took me a while to get adb working.

So i'm learning. I got everything working up to the point where i searched and saw that my device is listed under adb.

Now i'm typing the commands at the beginning of the post, eg adb...remount,rw...

the next line says: mount [-r] [-w] [-o option] [t-type] device directory..

after that like i began typing the push command, and it told me that failed to copy apk because "Read only file system"

What am i doing wrong now?

Update:

I have wanted to go with the internal in lou of SD version for speed purposes and I am also convinced the OS will get only better from here. My problem has been communication with the HC. The Win7 x64 machine has been a bear. "Not attached" is mostly the problem. So I went to an old XP machine x86 I have. This time I used the "nookcolor-easyADB" download as suggested here. Drivers and all. Worked great. Attached every time and all with the nook cable. Also, I went back to my Win7 machine and unloaded everything. Uninstalled drivers and all. Rebooted and did the same that worked with the WinXP x86 machine and still no workie (attachment that is). So I read again thru the forum and tried a different cable than the nook one and finally repeatability hookup with HC v4. YaY!

OK, so I installed the 2.2.x Froyo SD on a new card, and it works great. It works better than the HC version as far as finding apps and working except for it is definitely not a tabloid OS like HC is. Don't like the soft key apps yet. still configuring them.

I now have a Froyo card and a HC card all decked out and massaged. Both 8GB Class10 Patriot cards.
Turning off and back on does indead increase the screen response performance on both versions.

I believe it is a size threshold when going to a 16-32GB cards when in class 10 config. Tried them all. I have a 32 GB waiting to be a MicroSD card in my NEW internally HC possessed, NC tabloid. Booya!

EDIT: In this post. "Not attached" references I have been making? I also had the "Offline" problems. Now shows "Online" as well as "Attached".

the link that you posted that redirected me to wiki.

when i was ready to update the drivers for the nook and pointed to the folder where i extracted the contents that I downloaded from the wiki page, it says

windows was unable to install your nook color.

btw. when i was selecting the package to install, it installed 2 packages. it installed the revision 2 or something.

there was no adb.exe in the tools folder, but instead in "platform-tools"

does that mean i add to the environment variable the platform-tools folder instead?

Oh and another thing, When hooked up to a cable that works for attachment, (meaning I have communication to the computer) I still fail with HC and Froyo to see the 2 drives that mount when connected. they are grayed out.

Any thoughts? When I install internally will this be the case with a SD card installed? or the available internal memory for storage?

EDIT(1): im trying to download angry birds and it's not downloading at all. any ideas?

Edit(2): i apologize if im annoying. im just impatient and excited at the same time. i installed the apps. I guess it doesnt really show the progress bar.....

you set your path correctly to the adb, right?

they you copy this command "adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system"

and thats when you got, read only system? you have to type the command exactly,

cool that you got it working, the usb port thing happen to me. for some reason once I change to another usb port it work. don't forget to plug your NC to that usb port all the time. The market does not work 100% on HC since it is a preview. if you need an app, you can copy it from your phone and push it to your NC.

basically the best card would be 8gb class 10, from which site are you getting the sd cards? I am looking to buying one.

I was thinking of going to Froyo for a solid build right now.

Honeycomb is amazing. i want to see if there's a stable Overclock right now but otherwise the OS is pretty awesome imo.

it kinda sucks to wait for the official release

Seems with patience i have been able to figure all the problems i previously had. Now my question is, Why are the market downloads so slow. And why when i waited over half hour for something to DL i can't find it anywhere. What am i missing this time.

And again, thanks for the responses and all the help you've given.

p.s. I feel like such a bobo with this cause i'm usually pretty good and figuring this **it out.

I've been buying at Fry's Electronics here in Anaheim CA. Not Online. no real choices online.

In WinImage, I am getting this message "error in writing disk 1, error 5 : ACCESS is denied" Any thoughts? I'm running Windows 7

i don't know which version of WinImage you are using, but i was used the ones that were provided here and it didn't work.

I went on youtube and go my winimage there. One of the videos provided a link to download their version that they were using and it was much more manageable.

hopefully that works.

edit: i think it was this one,

YouTube - How to Root a Nook Color (PC Version)

Try running winimage in compatibility mode, Right Click->Properties->Compatibility and then check Run in Compatibility mode Windows XP Service Pack 3.

A little tip I might add for the noobies out there (such as was the case for myself) is that windows wont be able to format an sd card back to 1 full partition after you have written the image to the card. So download the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (and use a card reader) and it will get your card back to normal.

Another thing I have noticed is installing apps from the market is ungodly slow, but again cant be picky at this early stage, and I know that will improve.

I couldn't get the other software such as Easeus to recognize my SD card. Popped the card in my EVO and formatted it there with no problems!:D
