[HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No root!)

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

no clue then kcls, did the new card work?

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

HA! I got it. spent part of the night reading last night.

Problem #1: The disk needs to be RAW. No formatting. Found that on one of the early XDA threads.

Problem #2: The biggest issue, if you have an account set as admin in XP, this does not mean that the programs running are running as admin. MAJOR hurdle.

I got the nook to boot. IT did not reboot itself. I had to power back on (low battery maybe??)

IT ran through the android screen, then began throwing force close errors. I used 7.0.3 That I found in an XDA writeup.

I came back to load the build from this thread, and to load gapps. XP WILL NOT recognize the partitions. Do I need to partition using wintool and then load Gapps to that partition??

I have boot, EXT4, EXT4 and CM7 FAT partitions now. I can build a new card but not sure it will work.

Thanks for not cutting me down on all of this. I don;t like to admit to my novice computing skills, but this has rubbed my face in it a bit.

Stopped Apps
Com.android.providers.calender
.deskclock
.bluetooth
com.koushikdutta.rommanager
.media

.media is repeatedly showing an error.

nook looks f'in awesome though.

Shoot, yeah... I just realized that. The disk doesn't need to be RAW, but the biggest issue is running the Imager as the administrator. THAT is the reason it was working for some and not for others. I will edit the instructions accordingly.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

I can get CM7 to load to the CM mod 7 logo but can't get past that. I have loaded Gapps at least 9 or 10 times from two different Wintec Filemate class 6 cards with same results. Screenwill not flash will only turn off. What canI do to fix this. Thanks Bob R :(

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

any idea if the build I used is the cause of the errors im having? I can't get windows to recognize the boot part on the card right now. maybe when I get it this thing on the newer build it will straighten out

FML. I wanted to pull back that build and load the 7.1.0. The toshiba running Win7 just had what appears to be a hard drive failure. XP wont recognize the partitions after the img file is written. I killed the only version of the SD card (with CM7) that worked trying to put recovery on it so I could start from scratch.

I haven't lost much, everything on that last build had forced close errors and the widgets all died.

I wish I had more time to solve this puzzle. Maybe I should just learn how to run linux.

I'm not sure what is going wrong with everyone. Why are some people able to get this to work fine but others aren't? It's working fine for me, I re-did my nook just so I could test and see if it worked, and it did! This was on WinXP of course. Why in the world is this happening to only some people? I thought it was the issue of the fact that only some people were using administrative accounts, but I guess not. Hmm, I'll have to look into it more.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

The entire problem with mine is managing the partitions. If I could make it work I would be elated. Right now I have half an SD rooted nook with no card to boot from.

This dell is a home brewed inspiron that I got as an empty box. I have loaded everything on it, from XP SP1 up, then had a battle with smit fraud and revived it. It may not be fully functional. who knows.

I can;t wait to have a functional nook for traveling.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

I formatted the SD card, Loaded the image and the 7.1.0 file. The nook won;t boot with this SD card inserted. Any idea on why?

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

I get the same "disk space" error. I tried the SD Formatter program mentioned above, with no success. Also, I am logged in the machine as local Admin, tried running as admin as well, no success. Any ideas?

I had this same problem today when I went to do this CM7 install. Got the "not enough space" error using the win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.3-r27-binary.zip file.

I had an old copy of Win Disk Imager 0.1-r15 from a previous SD card build, so I tried it (run as administrator) and it worked fine.

You can download win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.1-r15-win32.zip from https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download and give it a try.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

This is IT!!! run the 1.5 version of windisk32 as admin and throw on the 7.1.0 file. Mine rolled out as fast as it could go.

Thank you so much.

Observations: Format the card using the nook before starting
Run the earlier version of Windisk32
If after burning the image, windows does not say "boot" then you can't load the gapps zip or md 7 zip.

I can;t get the 7.1.0 encore to work. It says it;s loading and stops.
7.0.3 loads but then stacks force close errors.

going to try a nightly.

I kept on getting the boot up screen with the CM7 android on skateboard in a loop and won't get pass this stage. I've followed all the instructions but something is wrong. I'm using a Wintec 16gb class 10, not sure if this is the problem. I don't have another card to try at the moment. Don't want to get another card unless I know for sure its the cards problem. Please help, anyone?

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

BMSINIA, thanks, that worked for me! I have mine up and running now. A few too many FC's though.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

I did have one more question... Once I dropped image to sd card, the computer no longer recognizes the card. Even though I can boot the nook and run it..etc. How can I now transfer music/movies to the card to run it under CM7?

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

Hi,
took the plunge today, created a boot SD card and after a couple of false starts, everything is up and running.
So very happy and thanks for the clear instructions - which have to be followed exactly - it does not work if you don't.

The only problem I have is that the CM7 install sometimes runs a bit slowly and or jerky. Any suggestions as to ho to sold this would be appreciated.

I used a 4gb Samsung SD card that came with my HTC Desire phone ( have upgraded the memory on that).
I have another 16gb Sandisk card and may well set that up to use in the NC in a few days.
When I put the Samsung SD card in my PC, it is only recognised as about 120mb. I tried reformatting it, but it stayed the same. How can I get the full 4gb back please? Any help would be appreciated with that too.
Thanks again

It is laggy on my nook as well, and today I upgraded to Nightly 151 and OC'd to 1.2Ghz and it is feeling a little bit snappier.
Also, when you go into the "Applications>> Manage Applications" in the settings page on your nook, what does it say at the bottom? That is the real amount of storage space you have.

Is there a way to format the remainder of the memory card to use as storage since I have a 16gb card? Seems like a big waste if I can't use the rest of the card. Thx.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

Try using EASEUS Partition Master to expand the 4th partition on the SD card to include the unallocated space on the card.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a NC and putting CM7 on a Sandisk SD card for booting. But in a post I saw that going into reboot-then to recovery has changed for Stock 1.2 software. Is going to recovery still the same for any version of the stock BN systems? Or is rebooting into recovery part of the image file procedure?

In the procedure here for putting CM7 onto a SD card, there should not be a need to go into recovery at all unless the GApps file did not install correctly. Correct?

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

Hi all,

This is what I read in the other post concerning getting CM7 on a SD card for getting into recovery mode. This is a little different way to put CM7 on a SD. It uses a "size-agnostic SDCard CM7 installer".
What is the difference in the two methods of getting CM7 on a SD card?

'Insert the uSD card back into the NOOK and boot into "Recovery mode" (hold nook N key and then press and hold power for ~6 seconds, the bootloader message should be on the screen for a second or so before you release both buttons. If the screen went off while you were holding the power key, that means you were holding it for too long)."

Is this the method for getting into recovery mode in the method in this post?
