[HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No root!)

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

Try using EASEUS Partition Master to expand the 4th partition on the SD card to include the unallocated space on the card.

I am a relative newbie with the Nook Color, however I was successful with getting everything to work on the SD card plus created a multiboot (so that holding the "N" while booting goes directly to the stock). Twice, actually. For my NC and my mom's. BUT.. I am not finding a way to use EASEUS with my card. I've installed EASEUS Partition Master. My card is in the card adapter and inserted in my computer. (My computer only recognizes the Boot partition.) In EASEUS, it only shows me my computer's hard drive. I am not able to see the microSD card, nor have I figured out how to view this in EASEUS. Is there a super secret trick with this?

Thanks!!

Kimberly

The only thing I can think of (I have never partitioned my SD Card for the nook) is you need to wipe the SD Card and start over. So, Wipe it, then format it so your computer recognizes it, the partition it. I think the BOOT partition needs 1gb, but it could be 2. Then when writing the image, choose your 2gb partition. Windows will recognize them as 2 sepetate drives, so make sure you choose the right one!

Need a little help. I loaded CM7 to the SD card and then inserted the SD card and got the penguin and the scrolling text. When the text stops scrolling, the last line says that the device will now shut down. The device does just that. It shuts down and I have to manually turn the power back on to the device. (In other words its not just rebooting) The penguin comes back and the scrolling text returns and the device shuts down again. It has never booted into CM7. Any ideas?

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

I looked but couldn't find an answer for this. I got everything working, but told a friend I'd give her a card to duel boot her Nook also. I put this install on an 8gb card, but am thinking of buying a 32 gb for myself and reinstalling on that. Are the cards locked somehow to the unit which was used for the install, or can I just give her the 8gb card I just set up? I haven't added any my login info other than wifi, which she can use anyway. Or, do I need to wipe and start over using her Nook?

And, assuming that I can just give her the card, then why hasn't anyone just uploaded a card image done after the full install? Do copyrighted files get transferred to the card in that process?

*Should anyone else have the same question, I just tried putting the card in the other Nook, and it seems to be working well. Very cool!

Getting a new Sandisk Class 4 16gb usd in the mail today and goal to have CM7 up and running on my NC this weekend. Anyone know where to find the image file now that the one KoopaKid posted expired a few days ago? Have been trying with a different usd card using the image I found by googling and downloaded from mediafire.com, but haven't seen this actual image referenced on any forums. Anyone used this download and had success, or know of one I can get that is working? Appreciate the help!:)

Ugh I keep forgetting, lol. I set an alarm to remind myself to do it when I get home.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

After several tries, each working fine in installing CM7, I cannot get to my NC with Windows Explorer via USB cable. When I plug in the cable the USB icon appears at the bottom of the screen, but nothing shows up on my computer. I've tried USB tethering apps from the market and they are no help.
If I boot back to stock, I can access the SD card, but only the boot partition on the 8gig card.

Open up your notifications and there should be an option to enable USB mass storage

I have read this over and over and have and my only question is on the "1. The image. This is what you will be writing to the SD Card, so the Nook can recognize it to boot off of. You can download the image HERE." When I attempt to download, I get generic-sdcard-v1.3(1).img.gz and it is not a folder or anything that will open. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Ok, I'm a NOOB, so please bare with me. I followed all the instructions here using WinXP and successfully loaded 'update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-encore-signed' and 'gapps-gb-20110828-signed' onto my NC booting from a San Disk 16GB card.

CM 7.1 loads fine, however on the first load, I have no idea how to navigate from the first screen. I am given a 'Complete Action Using' and two options: 1) Setup Wizard and 2) com.android.provision.DefaultActivity.

What do I press (pressing the tablet's screen does nothing) to actual get into and navigate within the CM7 environment?? I would really appreciate some insight and thanks for all your help.

Oooh, I'm trying to remember ... I don't remember :( Guess you're gonna have to try both! If they give you two, one's gotta work :) If the one you choose doesn't work, you can always sign in when you first start the market. Chances are you've dldone this already though :)

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

I retried the process over. And loaded Gapps after CM 7.1. Everything worked as planned, loaded CM7., got to the home screen but one small problem: THE TOUCH SCREEN STILL DOESN'T WORK. It's the same issue as my first post: The screen doesn't respond when I press it. So I'm curious if it's an issue with encore because when I boot directly into the NC factory environment (i.e. not from the sd card), the touch screen works fine. Perhaps it's because I have the latest version of the NC??

Event when I boot from an SD card with just CM7.1 (no gapps on the card at all), everything loads, I get to the home screen and can see apps and the rest of the CM7.1 goodies, but the screen does not respond to my touch.

Is anyone else having an issue with a non-responsive touch screen???

What is the brand of your SD card?

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

San Disk 16G Level 4 card.

Here's the interesting thing: I did the entire process over, except this time I used Win32 Disk Imager (win32 release) instead of the binary version as instructed here and I also went to another site to download 'update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip'. Interestingly enough, the site (Maurice Mongeon) pointed me to the same site as this AC thread (cyanogenmod.com) to download the CM7.1 zip file, however the file I download via MM's link was larger than the file this that AC linked me to (although both links pointed to the same website).

Android Central's link to CM.com had a file size of 95,926 KB (file name update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-encore-signed)

MM's link to CM.com had a file size of 103, 347KB (file name update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed)

Long story short, same site to download from, however two different sizes. In the end, the larger file worked for me and now I'm running CM 7.1 on my Nook Color and the touch screen works!

Hope this helps someone. Perhaps someone can explain what's going on??

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Ok, last Noob question:

1. I partitioned the factory NC hard drive to a 1GB data (B&N content)/ and 5GB media.

2. I installed CM 7.1 to a 16GB San Disk Level 4 card. When I view 'Storage settings' running CM 7.1 from the card, I get the following:
- SD card total space = 13.31 GB
- Internal storage total space = 0.93 GB
- Additional storage: /mnt/emmc = 5.23 GB

So my questions are these:
1. When I download apps from the market, where should I download them to? I'm assuming it's best to download to SD card, but how do I direct the downloaded apps onto SD card and will that affect their performance?? Right now, the one app I downloaded (Words with friends) automatically downloaded to the Internal Storage partition (1GB) and I obviously don't have enough room there for all the apps I intend to use. BTW, I couldn't get Words to run, its keeps asking me for a 'force close'. Any advice?

2. My plan is to fill up my additional storage (5GB partition) with media (pics, music, e-books). I'm guessing I can side-load this partition via my USB cable connected to my laptop. Can I access this data in both the B&N environment and the CM 7.1 environment (booting from SD card)??

3. Is it safe to assume anything I save to the SD card (13GB available) can be accessed from the B&N or the CM 7.1 environment.

Sorry for being long-winded, simply trying to figure out how and where I should save my apps, e-books, music, pics, and other miscellaneous files. And then the best way in terms of how to readily access that data.

Thanks!

1. Just keep downloading apps. The market will put tthem on the correct partition. When you get a notification about low storage space (which wont be until you download quite a lot of apps) and then go to settings>>applications>>manage applications and the sort by storage and move the biggest apps to the SD Card.

2+3. I'm not sure. I haven't booted into the stock nook environment for, well, since I put CM7 on the SD Card.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

THANK YOU!! I spent days trying to find a way to do this just to the SD card in a format that I could actually comprehend and felt comfortable following. I wanted to do it to the SD card first because I didn't want to void my warranty and I have never done anything like this before. Your instructions were easy to follow, I just took my time and followed them step by step. My Nook Color is now a tablet and I love it! Thank you again for doing this post in an easy to understand and follow format!

I myself just got done with the whole job and I don't see any screen lag at all. I must say, I like this better than the nookie-froyo sd card mod. Excellent job!

Just ran Quadrant and I know it can't be right, but I have a score of 1851. Anyone else try benchmarking their nook color?
