If you download the apk from the WhatsApp site, you have to make sure you allow apps to be installed from unknown sources in the phone's system settings. Go to Settings>Apps>Special App Access>Install Unknown Apps, and allow that for Chrome or your file manager.

It should be the same app as in the Play Store, but if you install it from the latter, it'll get official updates automatically, whereas if you install it from the WhatsApp site, you'd have to keep checking back to see if there is an updated version available.

If I install it from the WhatsApp site, does it have an option to select auto check updates or deselect auto check updates?

You mean for app updates? Probably not, if you install it as an apk. It might have an option that would just bring you to that WhatsApp website.

Yes.

Assuming if I install the whatsapp from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/ now.

Example, on 31 Dec 2022 I managed to get playstore in my phone then if I uninstall whatsapp that was installed from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/ and install https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...3ecfdd24d811ed815900020a180510&token=uln0dvtL would I retain and see the same whatsapp history until 31 Dec 2022 inside whatsapp installed from the playstore version?

The app itself is exactly the same.

It is recommended to download the apk from the official website of WhatsApp in order to sideload the app if you do not have Google Play Store.

Are those version with the text "beta" unstable?

These are the latest 2 I saw at apkmirror

WhatsApp Messenger 2.22.19.7 beta
August 26, 2022 GMT+0800

WhatsApp Messenger 2.22.18.74
August 26, 2022 GMT+0800
Those are beta version like if you were to opt in from play store so yes any beta can have unexpected glitches

Do you mean the whatsapp in playstore is beta version?

Not sure what you mean by "opt in from play store". If I have playstore, what I normally do is press the playstore button inside the phone, search for app name, press the app I want from results, then press install, never knew about what version, opt in, beta or whatever.

See this in play store , in middle is see beta full there would be a option to join beta and test features out that not on regular version people use Screenshot_20220825_235301_Google%20Play%20Store.jpg

I see your screenshot says Beta program is full, what happens to those people who download the beta version from apkmirror now, are they going to be rejected?

No just have to install newer beta when available , the ones from Play store get it automatically

Assuming now there is a beta version (beta program not full) at the whatsapp in playstore, does it have a separate area/bottom for users to choose to install beta or non beta, or do all normal users get the beta version? I usually press the install button at the top most of the screen just below the app logo/title, does it mean I will never get beta version and only get non beta version?

Everyone gets normal version unless that the beta not full and would be a button to join

Would be in launcher settings, the path to the setting would vary depending which phone you have.

Every app downloaded from Google Playstore do show unread new incoming messages number at the corner of the icon by default. Is it because the whatsapp apk from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/ is not from Playstore so it does not show the unread new incoming messages number at the corner of the whatsapp icon?
