I don't see anything in particular. What are you worried about?

I want to follow the permissions settings of those whatsapp downloaded from playstore and try to see if it will show the unread new incoming messages number at the corner of the whatsapp icon

I doubt permissions have much to do with it. Look in your home and launcher settings to show notification dots as numbers. Also check the WhatsApp apps notification setting to make sure the show notification dot is enabled. That path would be something like; settings, apps, WhatsApp, notifications. It varies slightly by device.

If you download the apk from the WhatsApp site, you have to make sure you allow apps to be installed from unknown sources in the phone's system settings. Go to Settings>Apps>Special App Access>Install Unknown Apps, and allow that for Chrome or your file manager.

It should be the same app as in the Play Store, but if you install it from the latter, it'll get official updates automatically, whereas if you install it from the WhatsApp site, you'd have to keep checking back to see if there is an updated version available.

I have installed whatsapp from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/

How to update whatsapp installed from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/ ?

I saw this https://faq.whatsapp.com/486821732268633/?locale=en_US and it only teaches how to update whatsapp installed from google playstore.

(I read about recent whatsapp problem so I want to update now https://lifehacker.com/you-really-do-need-to-update-whatsapp-right-now-1849585597 )

Sorry, but I really don't know much about these various WhatsApp issues, since I don't use Whatsapp (and I don't intend to create an account with them). I would guess that you'd just have to keep an eye on the WhasApp website for any new updates, and then install that apk (which would replace the current on on your phone).

Your best option would be to uninstall the old version from the apk and install a current version from Play Store.

If I download the whatsapp apk and then install it, will it be an update to my existing whatsapp or would it be like a new install that I would need to activate whatsapp and restore backup again?

What do you mean? Is it a new whatsapp that will overwrite the old whatsapp? Will I need to do the activate whatsapp (input sms code) and restore whatsapp backup again?
Usually a newer version will update the existing app nothing further to be done , if your using older APK u need to uninstall the current one for it to install.

Do not understand what you mean, first part it seems like you are saying can install (without uninstalling old whatsapp first) so it will update the existing app to the version installed, second part it seems like you are saying I need to uninstall the older APK first then can install a new whatsapp apk

Q1. "Usually a newer version will update the existing app nothing further to be done" > I have whatsapp apk installed already and did not uninstall it, if I install the newest whatsapp apk, will I need to do the activate whatsapp (input sms code) and restore whatsapp backup again?

Q2. "if your using older APK u need to uninstall the current one for it to install" > I have whatsapp apk installed already and now I uninstall it, then I install the newest whatsapp apk, will I need to do the activate whatsapp (input sms code) and restore whatsapp backup again?

Your current version of Whatsapp you have installed now you want get a higher version APK it will install like a update.

If you want to install a lower version then the app you have it won't allow you downgrade unless that app that you currently have is uninstalled and will reset the app

My recollection of this kind of practice is that installing a newer version of an app via apk will replace the old version (you can't have two instances of the same app, unless the phone has a special app clone feature). The app should still retain all of the previous account settings.

My current whatsapp is apk installed from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/

If I want to install whatsapp from playstore, how can I do it without reactivate whatsapp (enter sms code) and without restore whatsapp backup? (I want to change from whatsapp apk to whatsapp in playstore, all settings and other stuff unchanged)

I am thinking install from playstore seems better as it can auto update.

Go to the WhatsApp page in the Play Store app. Do you see an Update button there, or Install? If it's Update, then tap it, and it should act like a normal update, retaining all of your account information.
