How to empty gmail trash?

That DOESN'T WORK with GMAIL in the NEXUS 7 tablet. There is no way I would ever have 3,000 emails in trash within 30 days. The truth is the ONLY!!!! way to do it is from you desktop or laptop Gmail!

Then you didn't enable it in settings.

There is an "Empty Trash Now" button at the top of the messages in Trash. You can also click the tickbox to select all messages on the page, then delete them.

Hi, I also wanted to delete my Trash Folder, on my LG optimus on the Gmail app but I can't find the button.
So could you help me, thanks!

On my GS4, I open the trash folder, tap the menu button, bottom left on phone, tap "empty trash". Done.

The Note 3 has an Empty Trash option that clears them all out without having to select them. There is no way I can find to individually delete them. Touch wiz did one thing right.

Okay.. Emptying the gmail trash from your android is not as cumbersome as it seems. For starters, it seems like a perennial conundrum, but It's actually quite easy. Let's make one thing clear: the trash folder CAN NOT be emptied from the gmail app!
Here are the steps:
*From your phone, using your WEB BROWSER (not the gmail app), log in to your gmail. Once logged in, you will notice that the layout from the browser is disparate from the layout on the gmail app.
*scroll to the very bottom of the page and select "desktop version"
* once selected, scroll back the top and hit the "empty trash" button. And there you go.

BTW, you do NOT need a laptop or desktop to perform this action. I have done my preliminary due diligence, and trust me, it works!
Hope this helps!

Like the previous user with a GS4 I opened my trash folder, used the menu key and tapped Empty Trash.

NOW - Like many other users I've been ripping my hair out trying to figure this out. I've tapped that menu button dozens of times before but the words "Empty Trash" never appeared. Then I saw the previous GS4 users post and went back and tried it again - except this time when I pressed the menu key and still not finding those magic words I hit the the little "curly key" which made the popup from the menu key go away but then I hit the menu key again and now I have those magic words appear.

Sorry for the long winded explanation and the technical term "curly key" but that is what happened.

Maybe it's a bug in Gmail - I don't know.

My Gmail WAS Setup with those options, but not anymore, they're gone! There's NO empty trash option & NO way to select multiple messages, it's ridiculous! I thought I was cracking up! I don't know how anyone could possibly think this is a more efficient way of doing things! ! Thus far, the only way I've found to get an option to empty the trash, is by opening Gmail through the Web browser as another reviewer said. However, you still need to select the messages one by one & the option for emptying the trash now says: delete forever! ! (Galaxy Tab 3 w/K.K.)

Yesterday I got an OTA update for GMail 5.0.1. The "empty trash" option is now there for all my accounts. :).
