When I am making a call on my Samsung Galaxy S5 (running Android 5.0) the screen often changes so that I can no longer see the red phone "end call" button. I have gone to Accessibility=>Answering and ending calls and ticked "Pressing the home key" and "Pressing the power key", but I am not sure if these work as I do not see "Call ended".
Is there any way I can see if there is a call in action?
Or if there is not, is there a phone app that will show this?

I agree with the above comment. The proximity sensor should turn the screen back on when you remove it from your ear. You an also check through the settings to see if there is a screen time out while in call. Alternatively, you should be able to press the power button and have the screen turn back on and have the option to end the call.
