How to Escape the Force Close Loop of Hell

Ok, I think I killed my SF. I am stuck in a loop. I think it is what you guys are talking about but, maybe not. "fota wipe failed"

I am stuck on step 14. No matter what it will not bring up the rom recovery 2e thing. Just loops into "fota wipe failed".

I coped update.zip to the sd card. I just can not get it to get into rom recovery 2e.

Any ideas what I can do to reset this thing? At this point I would be happy with the stock 2.1.

Thanks....

this is not good, because you cant even bring that into verizon... i think this is a situation we may have to experiment with the jig that is used with the captivate,,, it will cost you about $50 and i dont even know if it will work

Good question, Tried to follow the link on the instructions but it is broken, then tried a good search for it, and evidently downloaded the wrong file

Go to the roms and hacks section of the fascinate forums here. Go to the samsung wiki post ...look for the how to odin post there is an odin download there

:sigh: I was so hopeful this was going to work for me, but I get MD5 mismatch! after starting the restore process... any suggestions?

Just to throw it out there.... after no luck w/the MD5 mismatch error... i just did "factory reset" from clockwork and it got rid of all force closes!!!

HELP! I can't get my fascinate to recognize the update.zip file. First of all, I don't know where to get it. There isn't a link in your forum post when you reference it at all. I used an update.zip file from another thread and it isn't recognized. I'm just dropping it on the SD card, not in any special folder or anything. Is that right??

Thanks for posting this guide. I got a used Fascinate off of ebay to use until I get a different phone on renewal, and it went into force close hell. This was a lifesaver.

Here is an update from my debacle...

I was finally able to create my own jig and force the phone into download mode, half way through loading up the stock kernel, with the proper Odin program, it some how failed and bricked the phone for good... the jig didn't work the second time.

Good news is that Big Red sent me out no-charge replacement... I have been a little gun shy about rooting this new one... so I am impatiently waiting for them to get us the official upgrade.

Thankfully I only signed on for a 1 year contract, at which point I may be saying goodbye for good to any samsung product that needs any kind of updating..
