Before you flash anything you should always make sure you have a full charge to avoid this problem. Sounds like you have a dead battery. You'll either need to charge your battery in a stand-alone charger or get another one that is charged before you can proceed with the Odin restore.

AH fml considering its 11:30pm where im at it seems that Im screwed the phone wont charge that battery will it?

Unfortunately no. Sounds like you may have to wait a few hours for the stores to open up, sorry :(

Yeah FML oh well will have to run down to a sprint store bright and early and ask them to charge my batter for me. idk what ill say when they ask why haha! thanks for being on so late at night rag you rock! I really wish the Guide would have mentioned having the battery at full charge before doing anything...

No problem. I've tried very hard to put every conceivable tip and all relevant info in all the threads I make, but some inevitably slip through. I'll add a note to the first post.

yeah good idea. hey but its 4am why am i posting? because i'm flashing my phone! apparently you can charge the battery with the phone!
steps on how to.

Step 1) Take out the battery
Step 2) Plug in usb from wall charger and try to power it on
Step 3) phone should start attempting to power on but ask for battery. This is when you pop ur dead battery back in and reset the phone!(hold top volume button + camera +power) this should now have the battery sign with it mid loading...it wont give detection that its charging and the 4 sensor buttons should stay lit up. give it some time than go into download mode and it should work :)

result flash to froyo in less than 2 minutes.

I have the Epic and I've downloaded Odin and I've tried 6 different USB ports on my computer as well as 6 others through a USB hub. After I put my phone into download mode Odin will not recognize my phone at all. It'll recognize when I plug it in normally but after I put it in DL mode it doesn't. I've tried downloading the drivers from samsungs website as well as the 32bit and 64 bit drivers from another one of your posts. I've also tried Odin v1.00 and v1.61 and I still don't get anything.

I was just wondering if you have any other ideas I could try. This is my first Android phone and I love it but I'm seriously tired of waiting on 2.2.

Please see this part of the first post:

Troubleshooting
If you're having problems getting Odin to recognize your phone, try uninstalling the Samsung drivers you downloaded from the link above, and download and install this driver (select "Software" at the bottom; it should say "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)") instead.

If Odin does recognize your phone but is failing during installation of the system files, you may have a bad download. Try downloading the files again.

Some users have had success by not including the .pit file in their installation.

If your phone turns off and does not respond at all, remove and replace the battery to get it working again.

so just wondering..this is my first time doing any of this....and i was just wondering how long it takes so when i start ill know if its taking too long.

osx method`

if i do it this way on osx using heimdall with it flash me to froyo DK28?

or is it just for flashing a rom

if i load dk28 and root my epic, will i have to add my contacts back into my device?

Contacts and Calendar are synced with your Google account. They will automatically load back up once you go threw the initial first boot up/Google sign in process.

Not so sure, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think that your PHONE contacts are backed up to Google. When you add a contact, the contacts application asks you if you want to add it to "Phone" or "Google". I would expect that Google contacts are backed up (sync'd) on Google by default and Phone contacts are NOT, unless you are using some other backup method.

* My understanding is that Phone contacts are just stored locally, in the phone, unless you use a sync/backup tool to move them around elsewhere. Google contacts are synchronized with your Gmail account. Am I wrong in that?

Yes I believe your correct on that. I do remember having that issue when I was syncing my Calender one day... I would change something on my phone but it wouldn't reflect in my Gmail account. I had to switch it as you said to sync to Google/Gmail.

I noticed when I go into my contacts on Froyo now, you can hit your menu button and have the option to import/export your contacts to your SD card. Is this option available on Eclair? Its been awhile since I've been on Eclair.

Same thing happened to me...

Is 10 minutes on the "SetupConnection.." in Odin too long?

I beat my head against the wall on that one for several tries. When I eventually got it to work, I had changed two things so I can't tell you what exactly fixed it...

  • I downloaded a new version of the tar file that contains the image you're loading
  • I used another USB port on my laptop (Somebody mentioned that some ports act as an internal hub so I figured I had nothing to lose by changing it.

I would re-download the .tar file and try it again. You'll need to pull the battery out of the phone I think, to get out of download mode.
