I am wondering if there is a way to get custom icons that would replace the original icons for any app. for instance I use the Sense Email app on my incredible, and I have the app on my homescreen but it seems plain and I would like to replace it with the attached Icon. if you know how to and/or where to get cool android app please post, thanks

to be able to view attachments, sorry Mods, but had to.

or you could have, ya know, browsed the forums and made a few worthwhile posts? i know i know, crazy right?

Edit: Just wanted to give a quick apology to you, Jonagpa. I was in a really bad mood at that time.

If you know how to create icons or can download one, use Better Cut. If rooted, find an icon pack, download and apply using Metamorph.

worthwhile post? i understand your frustration but he didn't post multiple times to spam, he wanted to make something viewable so that people might have a better idea of what he was talking about. could it have been done in a better way? sure, but it's not like he flamed anybody or posted inappropriate material. give the guy a break. By posting what you did and not adding anything to the thread aside from trying to point some one's error, you are doing the exact thing that you are criticizing. this forum is for helping people in need of help and sharing knowledge, not ridiculing others for mistakes.

as for the icon, as trey pointed out "better cuts" is your best bet. if you are looking for it to just display like that on your homescreen you can always download "pro launcher beta" from the market and if you set it to bottom of the dock it will let you customize the image that will display for app. the downside to this option is that it can only change the look of it in that one spot, not throughout your phone (ex. app drawer). its free though unlike better cuts.

While we're on the topic of icons... Does anyone know how I can get my hands on the stock Top Bar icons (battery, signal strength, wifi, etc) that come on the HTC Evo? :)

isn't it just the standard sense icons? if it is (i dont know which phone you have) but it could be on an android forum under the themes section, probably using metamorph. if you let me know if it is standard sense or not and what phone you have, ill keep an eye out for it

Thanks for the reply. :) I'm currently using a Palm Pre and would like to make a Top Bar icon set based on the Evo icons. I'll go browse around this site and see if I can find them somewhere...

And I understand your frustration as well. But clearly we are all humans with varying opinions. Because while you may justify it, I'm sure other moderators (I'm speaking in general. Not making assumption on other A/C moderator views) would agree with me that the action taken to get to that required post count was unneeded and should have been gone about in a completely different way. As a moderator, why would you condone something like that but then lock a thread that duplicates one from months prior when the poster legitimately didn't know it had already been asked when they were just "in need of help and sharing knowledge". Once again, not directing at you or A/C mods specifically. Just referencing standard forum assumed etiquette.

But back to the topic at hand, which I fully apologize for not addressing in my first post, it seems as though both Better Cut and Open Home (both by the developer Better Android) are the preferred choices based on what I've seen through a few searches. I can't comment on the quality of either since I've never used either but no harm in checking them out. Better Cut is more specific towards what you are looking for while Open Home is a full home screen replacement.

BetterCut - Android app on AppBrain

Open Home - Full - Android app on AppBrain

Hrmm... I installed metamorph and when I launch the program and it performs the check it stops with the message, "Please make sure you have enough space in /system".

Any suggestions?

Download this
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-working-4g-busybox-superuser-mild-gumbo.html

Open it with a file compressor (7zip if you use win, you need it below) and drag the contents of /system into a work folder.

In /system/framework/ drag out the two files with an extension of .apk . Open the .apk files with 7zip or equivalent. Pull out the /res folder and browse through it for the icons. You can also dig through the files in /system/app/ for other .apk's and pull out graphic resources the same way. Random images can be found in other folders in /etc as well, just dig through them.

Check out androidmorph.com, there is a bunch of status bar morphs that should contain the icons you are looking for

Try UltimateFavesPRO, it you can now customize the icons for everything, home-screen shortcuts to carousels, items in the carousel, etc.

You can download it from the Android market.

Also checkout ultimatefaves.com

If you use LauncherPro, it now allows you to change any icon on the homescreen. Otherwise, use AnyCut, BetterCut, etc...

ADW also allows icon changes. :-) Just throwing that out there, no love for ADW here. :-D

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!

For anyone who gets an Android device for Christmas ( I DID!), then this is a great tip.

I found ADW Launcher and am loving it. I found this thread in a search and learned how to make custom shortcuts and icons with ADW.

But, also there are other options that I wasn't aware of. It looks like Better Cut is probably going on the short list of programs I will be purchasing. Thanks for all the tips, gang.
