Hey all,

I let Android do an upgrade on my phone yesterday.

It deleted a large clock I had on my home screen and it deleted a row of apps.

Is this the result of the upgrade changing a setting that I can set back?

If not and I have to repopulate my home screen on my own how can I restore the top row of app icons ( immediately above the row on the bottom )? How can I make groups of icons? I pressed on the screens and did not see an option for that.

Thanks

Have you been keeping up with your backups?
A quick search says this is how to restore your home screen from backup using One UI.

To restore your One UI home screen from a backup, go to Settings > Accounts and Backup > Samsung Cloud > Restore data, select the desired backup, deselect "All" and select "Home screen", then tap Restore and Install. [1, 2, 3]
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Access Backup and Restore Settings: [2, 3]
Open the Settings app on your Samsung device, Scroll down and tap on Accounts and backup, Tap on Samsung Cloud, and Select Restore data. [2, 3]
2. Select Backup and Deselect "All": [2, 3]

  • If you have multiple backups, choose the one you want to restore from.
  • Deselect the "All" option to restore only specific data, including your home screen. [2, 3]
3. Select Home Screen and Restore: [2, 3]
  • Scroll down and select Home screen.
  • Tap Restore.
  • If prompted, tap Install to restore your apps and home screen layout. [2, 3]
This video demonstrates how to restore your home screen layout on a Samsung Galaxy device:

If you're not using backup for your home screen layout, you will have to repopulate manually.

When that update finished and the phone restarted, do you recall having to set it up as if it were a brand new phone, or did it go straight to the homescreen?

Looks like the update changed your home screen set-up, I've heard if it happening, going forward back your device up with your Samsung account or pc smart switch that way can restore it when things like this happen.

I schedule my updates for the middle of the night.

Usually the next day "One Drive" comes up and reconfigures things when I turn my phone off and on.

I don't recall that happening this time.
