How to get out of my Sprint contract

How did you manage that?

Sent from my Inspiration

I asked. I had been calling and reporting problems for the last 6 weeks. They kept telling me that they would send someone to fix the towers and that there was clearly something going on with the service in my area. Today I called retentions and asked to be let out. They looked over my account and noticed all the complaints and that there actually service issues here and let me out. They didn't offer an airrave because there was an unspecified amount of time until the problem would be fixed.

I like my EVO. 4G coverage in Houston is GREAT. 4G coverage in the So Bay section of Los Angeles is iffy outside and touch and go inside.

I am in town on business in South Orange County. I sit next to the window on the 1st floor of a 4 story building. My 3G coverage is bad to unusable. My voicemail is timestamped CSt despite being in PSt and the settings on use cell cite/time zome (whatever it is called). My text messages are delayed as well. When I travel 50 feet from my desk, my calls will go straight to VM, then the notification lags. I find myself rebooting/restarting my phone twice a day and I get missing messages and alerts.

I have called and keep being told that coverage is excellent in my area. I was refused an Airave. Plus, even if they did alow one, they want to charge a monthly fee. Why would anyone pay for a family or individual plan with certain features, then pay another $10 a month to use those features/ heck, i could simply pay the fees to another carrier and accomplish the same thing.

I will be back in my home coverage area (soon I hope), but if this persists I may have to change. I understand no provider is perfect.

I would simply caution the OP to test the other provider carefully and adhere to their return policy if not happy. Still, as you have mentioned, coverage was "good", but has changed, so that is always going to be an issue.

Here in Los Angeles, many of my family have ATT. My sister went to an ATT store 2 weeks ago and was GIVEN a 3G Microcell. It appear ATT is handing them out in great numbers and not charging an activation or monthly fee. I installed it at my parents home and the numbers registered to the device are getting better coverage inside and outside my parents house. I would love to try the Airave at work (and have received It approval), but Sprint shot me down on that request. Paying that $10 data surcharge when I can't get 3G data is starting to get a bit old. Fortunatelty it is only 9 hours a day.

Just curious Cowboy, where exactly in South OC are you experiencing bad coverage? I live in Mission Viejo, Coto area, and was thinking about switching to Sprint since they have a lot of incentives right now (instant rebate, $125 credit for porting, employee referral plan).

However, taking a look at the map shows poor coverage in the area. I work mostly in San Diego, so I spend most of my time down there, but I was planning on asking for an Airrave if the data was totally unusable at my house in South OC.

I'm coming from AT&T, which has decent coverage at my place in South OC, but spotty coverage elsewhere in OC. The main reason that I'm considering switching is that I've been with AT&T for 8 years and they are kicking me off my old "Blue" plan (AT&T Wireless). When I switch to a new phone, it will be with a data plan and Sprint has the best deals (along with T-Mobile, but I'm wary of the coming AT&T&T merger).

What is retentions and how do i contact?

Retentions is the department that you cancel your contract with. You call 611 and ask for retentions.

They only let me out though because there was a recent history with my account and bad coverage. Don't expect to be let out if you've never reported bas coverage or you are rude.

oh yes, because Sprint oh so hasn't reduced coverage to a few small areas which has been affecting my service

i find it suspicious that you were oh so kissing the ground Sprint walks on a few weeks ago, but now all of a sudden you're having problems

You don't read what I actually write. All I have stated is that sprint works for some and doesn't for others. I have also stated that people should use what works for them. I also have said I will use sprint as long as they work for me and when/if they don't I will switch to a carrier who does. They did work just great for almost 2 years. Then their towers here stopped working so they could be updated. I was waiting for them to be updated but they haven't yet. I have lost money because of it. So now its time to move on. Its not really as big of a deal as some people make it out to be.....

Sprint broke everyone's contract when there service area went to ****...pardon the language. Never before had I done this, but I've noticed I'm roaming at my house sometimes now. This is unacceptable and like many others 4G hasn't came fully to my area like it was promised. Like I've posted before they have a test tower up and its spotty at best. I just need to figure out a way to word this so the representative I speak with can understand where I'm coming from. The last two I've spoken with really didn't seem to get it when I mentioned wanting to leave. They may just not have cared and if that's the case....then forget them. I can always go get a TBolt or something. Anyway, before I start to ramble. Just thought is chime in. :-)

I read what you wrote, Jennell. Losing money is a big deal. I refuse to pay for subpar service. It's bad enough that Sprint has the audacity to charge $10 extra for a data fee and then maintains that oh, it's to help our customers so we won't have to have tiered data plans. BS, there should be zero excuses for the subpar network lately despite them charging us for it and 4G and don't give me the "$10 is not for 4G" because I am not stupid. Data is no more richer than when it was when I first started with them. And you constantly praised Sprint here, but now you say it's not a big deal? I'm not buying it at all.

I havent reached the roaming part...yet. But I've noticed my network strength decreasing tremendously where it used to be pretty good. I've spoken with several reps now and have heard so many different stories.

Uh huh, sure.

Your reading comprehension skills are amazing!

Sprint was great where I live until recently. Now they aren't. Its not really my fault that their coverage here changed. It did though and I did something about it. Just like I said I would if sprint stopped working well for me.

You said it, Jenn. Don't make fun of me for pointing it out.

I never said it was your fault, but you saw first hand how crappy Sprint is. But yet and still, for weeks you constantly praised them and called them a good carrier. Your words and your words alone

I said that Sprint works for some and not for others and that people should use what works for them. Sprint did work for me for a long time. Now they don't. So I am switching to who will work for me.

Well I can say you don't work for me, so apparently that's why we can't agree on anything. No, you were praising them as much as you kept babbling on and on about "what works for you" and such. I'm starting to wonder if you ever were on Sprint to begin with because even people who are loyal to Sprint have pointed out their bs.

<sarcasm>I find your bickering useful and informative. Thank you for contributing valuable discussion to this topic.</sarcasm>

Come on miz, she was never doing that. All she was ever saying was the same as i was too, go for what works best for you. If sprint is that terroble to you, leave! Its that simple, thats what she is doing now too. I wont because Sprint does really well where i live. How hard is it to comprehend that? It shouldnt be that difficult to think that sometimes some customers get what the carriers promise. It happens. But more often then not, you will have people in your situation where nothing can please you. Relax and move on already.

Exactly!

Oh yeah, you totally addressed my points.

Perhaps if Sprint would provide service and csr that were competent then maybe I'd be happy. But when you have a csr trying to spoonfeed and *****foot me, then of course I am going to complain. It's like I said before, Sprint will never improve and the fact that they lose subscribers more than Obama losing approval ratings and credibility is saying something.

And she has been overly praising Sprint since the day I came here and voiced how pissed I was at them for screwing my rebate up.

It's inevitable. Every topic I make, she derails.

So by your logic, if one person has a bad experience then everyone does? Not one person can have a good experience with a company no matter which one it is? Cause that is how you are making it sound.

Keep the thread on topic or I will close it and hand out infractions.
