How to get rid of an unwanted app/ virus

Daughter downloaded a "cracked screen" app which now covers most of her screen, we are left with the top left hand corner showing and that is it. We have set it back to factory reset but it is still there, does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of it as the only thing we can come up with is wiping the phone and reloading it but we do not even know if that is possible, Your help would be really appreciated, Thankyou

Try doing the factory reset from recovery. This way it will wipe before the phone even boots.
