How to get text messages to be read through handsfreelink bluetooth?

I have a new Honda Accord, but I can't get my text message notifications through the bluetooth. The music and calls work fine but not the text messaging. I had an S3, and it worked perfectly fine- it would alert me when I got a text message and it would read it aloud as well. I'm upset that my new phone does not work. Any suggestions?

By any chance, do you have any emoji in your text threads? I've found on my Honda that this kills the text function. Removing the emoji threads has fixed it for me.

I use Google Messenger and text messages display on my car's PID screen. They don't get read out, but having them displayed on screen is pretty neat.

My wife and I have this same issue. We just bought a 2015 Honda Pilot and while our Galaxy S3s connect without any issue and we are able to receive phone calls while connected through the Handsfreelink Bluetooth, we are not able to hear texts read aloud in the same fashion as receiving a phone call, ie. the music stops and is interrupted by the phone call. I can, however, switch the car radio to bluetooth/AUX mode, to listen to music on my phone, and in that mode the texts will be read aloud through the car speakers. Is there any way to make the incoming texts be read aloud while listening to the radio? Is this a phone thing or a car thing?

I've been seeking to solve this before, and I found a simple fix. I bought Tasker and made a task to read all incoming txt messages and also auto reply to the sender to let them know I'm busy driving. So far it has been working flawlessly, it would stop my Spotify while streaming in the car then announce the text, then resume the stream.

Thanks for the reply Rayfire. My texts will get read aloud if, and only if, I switch my phone to hands free mode and I have the car stereo in Bluetooth/Aux mode; like if I'm listening to Google Music, Amazon Music, music on my phone, etc. ie, using bluetooth audio, like what you are doing with Spotify. But if the car stereo is in radio mode, the radio won't get interrupted when a text comes in, only a phone call. Any ideas??

Oh interesting. Well my setup is a bit different since my car's bluetooth can only do HFP (hands free profile for calls) so I had to buy a bluetooth receiver that has A2DP (profile to play media) and plug it to my AUX.

Basically my LG G3 connects to my car's bt and also my a2dp both at the same time, so when someone calls it pauses the music and my car accepts the call, then resume music once the call is done.

If I understood it right, you just want to listen to your car radio but when a text is received, for it to be announced then resume the radio music? That's a little tough since your media would be coming from both the radio and also the text annunciation, I'm not sure if its entirely possible but I could be wrong. My setup works fine because my media is from my phone, and also the text, so both just goes to my A2DP receiver that is connected to the aux hence why it gets interrupted. Calls are always a priority that's why your car interrupts any media source to answer the call (so does mine) I'm hoping someone can pitch in with regards to your situation though.

Yes, you are exactly right. I want the radio to pause and the text read aloud just as it does when I get a phone call. If I'm not mistaken the Honda Pilot will do this with an iPhone, but I haven't been able to get it to work with my S3. It's not a life or death thing, just trying to get it to work.

This is a little old, but I thought I would reply.
I have a 2016 odyssey with the exact same system as your 2015 accord. We have the same problem. it should read text messages aloud and pop up a notification on the cars screen. It does this with my old Moto X (android 5.0), it does not do this on my Nexus 5X or my wifes HTC One A9 (multiple versions of 6.0 and 7.0). I'm thinking about just buying her an Iphone. Does anyone know of any other phones which work natively with the car reading the text message?

From everything I have read, if your Android has Marshmallow, the pop up text notification will not work in Honda/Acura. I have the same problem. Loved the fact that this would pop up and I could get the car to read my texts in my 2017 Acura RDX. This was BEFORE I upgraded my phone to Marshmallow 6.0.1. Doesn't work now. I have two 2017 Acuras, and it doesn't work in either of them (RDX and an ILX). Worked fine before the upgrade. Guess we just have to wait for Acura to update their software---which I doubt will happen.

I have a 2013 civic EX and my text was read aloud with my Galaxy note 4. Now I have an LG Stylo and it doesn't read my texts, in fact texts don't show up at all. Really disappointed. Any way to fix this???

Do you happen to have Verizon. I believe the issue is with their Message+ system.
I have the same issue, but I recently went to Canada. While roaming in Canada the system worked fine. Same phone, same car, just different provider.
I have not figured out how to get the verizon system to work yet though.

hi, i have a 2014 accord sport and a galaxy s7...the accord read text messages from the s7 prior the android 7 upgrade....once Verizon auto-updated the phone to nougat text mgs readout ceased. The frustrating part about resolving this is that Samsung points the finger at Honda and Honda points the finger at Samsung and the consumer is stuck in the middle of incompetence. However using my own methods of root cause, it appears that if i reboot my phone and stop the bt.map.service from completing its task at start up, my accord reads my text msgs. Performing this phone post boot activity has worked 100%.

I had leased a 2015 Honda civic lx model and my LG v10 worked just fine and would recognize text messages pause radio to pop up that a text has arrived and it would prompt to accept I press button and it reads and I had option to send pre set replies back. Now I just leased a 2018 Honda civic sedan lx and I feel I got a car that was worse than the car I got 15 years ago. Totally doesn't receive the text and I have to wait until I have stopped to see if my kid texted that he is sick. It's frustrating and I haven't changed phones or any setting on it. The dealership paired the device and sent me on my way and now the sales guy says it does it but is yet to give me a time to help figure out how to do so. Total rip off. I am paying extra for the later model and feel like I went back in time. The 2015 model was so much better. So far I haven't got the blame game and the sales guy said he would show me how to set it up.if they don't I seriously want to change back to my old car.

How does one do that. It has been so frustrating. I am sure it has nothing to do with phone as my phone worked just fine with 2015 Honda civic. And just from Jan 8th it cannot with the 2018 model
